If only the Earth was made of Nerf then it’d be the Erf.

or maybe Nearth?

Then, we’d all be safe. For now, people keep hurting themselves:

Investigative Report: Nail gun safety under fire as injuries soar
Dangerous models sold despite years of warnings

Here’s an idea: Don’t point the nail gun at yourself. And next:

Medical know-how raises suicide risk for doctors

Last link via Robb, who says: First off, I say a 3 day waiting period to obtain prescription drugs is in order, as a cool off time to ensure the person isn’t going to commit suicide with them. Also, we need stricter background checks on doctors to make sure they don’t do these kinds of things.

Just got up my post up on the nailgun PSH. Clearly, it’s all the tool’s fault.

That nailgun article…. wow. I wouldn’t have been surprised if its source had been The Onion. The facts are clear: there’s no need for any gunbloggery satire anymore, guys. The real news has made our efforts completely frivolous. Between nailguns and samurai swords, there’s really just nowhere else to go.

I do like the statistic of more than 100 nailgunshot wounds treated daily in hospitals in the US (42,000 annually). That sounds like quite a lot, especially since they would almost all be accidents (i.e. nonintentional). According to CDC figures for 1997 (latest year I could find) there were only about 14,000 accidental gunshot wounds, whether fatal or non-fatal.

    http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm4845a1.htm

Assuming the number of accidental gunshot wounds hasn’t skyrocketed since 1997, the rate of gun accidents is far less than the rate of nailgun accidents, and it would be even lower if you took into account the relative numbers of nailguns and guns in the country. Of course, the nailguns probably see a lot more constant use, but given the typical GFW argument that guns are “inherently dangerous” or other such BS, it’s still a good stat to know.

I loved their cost analysis of nailgun injuries, compared to other tools, where they disregard entirely the number of nailguns in use. In other news car accidents involving Toyotas are costing us 10,000 times as much in related healthcare costs as accidents involving Rolls Royces. If that isn’t proof that Toyotas are 10,000 times more dangerous than Rolls Royces, I don’t know what is.

Japan has one of the most highest suicide rates. The newist range is certain brand of detergents with bath salts. Gives off hydrogen sulfide.

The Japanese Government is asking internet providers to stop any posting of the formula! Three men died just the other day in Japan with this combo. It’s popular in Japan for those who have a terminal mindset.

So now they need to regulate detergents.. waiting period to buy Cheer, or maybe a background check.

They also use such as bath crystals with toilet cleanser, or toilet cleaner with mothballs in Japan.

The idea of no guns, no suicides is just plain stupid. Stupid is as stupid does (as Bloomberg, he should know.)

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
