Assault weapons hysteria over weapons that weren’t covered by the assault weapons ban

In Philly, Mayor Nutter has to find a scapegoat for the failure of his city to get its murder rate under control. That scapegoat must be Bush, The NRA and Congress. The local press keeps shitting its pants over assault weapons or assault rifles. They use the terms interchangeably.

The police officer was shot with an SKS rifle. Said rifle was neither banned nor regulated by the now expired ban on weapons that looked like assault weapons. But we can’t have facts getting in the way of our opinions.

But…but…but….it had a folding stock! That makes the bullets go faster! I found so much BS from the news on this story it made my head spin.

I even heard them say that the SKS has “tremendous firepower” – http://fateoflegions.blogspot.com/2008/05/extremely-armed-and-dangerous.html – among other things.

One of those articles has a picture of the beasty boomstick that grew a will of its own, whipped out its NRA card AND shiny CHP, and then proceded to commit murder. Seriously though, the same thing could have been done with a Henry Big Boy.

    “tremendous firepower”

Well, the Garand holds eight, and the SKS holds ten rounds. That’s a full 25% advantage in “firepower” (discounting the lower energy of the SKS’s 7.62 x 39 mm cartridge compared to the ’06).

It sounds like someone is trying to “cynically exploit our fears”.

So, cop gets shot with SKS, so…ban the SKS? What if a cop gets hit with a fist? Raped? Bribed?

Ban hands, penises and money, of course.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
