Aimed fire vs. Point shooting

This video from back in July of some guy taking pot-shots at his lawyer is the answer the to the great and tired “point shooting vs. aimed shooting” debate.

Video Here

It looks like point shooting isn’t getting the job done there. There are legitimate applications for point shooting, but come on. Six shots, not a single one produced a stop. Kudos to the lawyer for being on the dodge.

On a humorous note, watching a lawyer dodge bullets is always funny.

Update: I am severely off my game today – after listening to the video in its entirity, apparently the lawyer was hit several times.  He walked away, and apparently collapsed shortly thereafter.

Thus, this becomes a two-fold lesson – lesson 1: Use enough gun.  Lesson 2: Aimed fire is still better than point shooting.

Uh, he hit the lawyer repeatedly. It is really more of a lesson about stopping power.

  2. Dave Says:

From the questioning on the video:
    “Did the attorney get HIT?”
“Yes, he was hit multiple times.”
“Because we saw him dodging around behind the tree, and then he just walks away from it.”
“Yes, but he collapsed shortly after that.”

  3. Jim W Says:

    It happened in 2005.

It may be funny in the hypothetical, but I didn’t find it particularly amusing in actuality.

    I concur.

It was a lot funnier before I realized that he was actually getting hit.

WRONG, this will not settle anything! Look closely at the video. The revolver is moving with every shot. Most of the shots are from waist level. Even so, it looks like he got at least 2 hits from a 5 or 6 shot revolver.
Point shooting is a skill and like any complex skill it has to practiced and mastered. Watch Rex Applegate’s video on point shooting. He has WWII troops getting one handed hits with 25 yr old 1911 clunkers at 75 yds.
This shooter is just an individual, unfamiliar with handguns, in an outrage shooting in the general direction of his intended target. What are the chances of an overweight, a little older than a middle aged man from the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia having good handgun shooting skills?? None and next to none!!
My wife, on the other hand, with point shooting, could have had this lawyer graveyard dead with one shot (maybe two on a bad day) at 20′ even with him behind a tree and dodging.

There it is. A .45acp would’ve dropped him in one shot.

Last time I saw this, I was more hit by the fact that no-one was doing anything to stop the violence. No conceal-carry heroes. Just standing, watching, filming – generally caught off guard. He empties the revolver – no reloading. Then he puts the gun away and strolls down the road – again more filming and just staring, with a little pointing – until finally the guy in the white shirt tackles him to the ground.

  12. Ahab Says:

This probably won’t help then – the guy who put the tackle on him was an off duty (or reserve) Sheriff’s deputy.

The “good people” standing around did exactly that – stand around and almost let the lawyer die.

And in regards to the point shooting vs. aimed fire issue, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that if the guy had taken the time to actually aim his pistol at that range, he probably would have had more success.

But hey, the tag says “humor” for a reason.

  13. TS Says:

AHAB, the humor understood, didn’t mean to get all excited and use too many exclamations.
Davitha, that was in the People Republik of Kalifornia. The law abiding slaves do not know how to react to something like this and might be prosecuted for reacting. Think of the UK.

  14. TS Says:

AHAB, I think it’s funny too watching a lawyer out of his element and in ours. He wasn’t near so powerful. Maybe the some of them could learn a lesson to quit stealing from the rest of us. Case in point, John Edwards.

  15. TS Says:

Ahab, it gets funnier everytime I watch it.

Since a California resident has a better chance of winning the lottery that getting a concealed carry permit, unless you’re a politician or celebrity, dont look too hard for CCW heroes in Kalifornistan.

  17. Republican Folk Singer Says:

Couple of things to be learned.

First Lawyers are hard to bring down

Second if you are a lawyer start packing!

  18. Ahab Says:

You know, that’s not too bad advice, actually. Since lawyers are amongst the people in the People’s Republic who might actually be able to get a CCW permit, were I a lawyer I would certainly exercise that privilege.

“Us” includes lawyers by the way. And it isn’t as easy as lawyers choosing to carry or not. Guns aren’t allowed in courtrooms, even LEO carried guns.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
