Knowing the law

Seems ColtCCO had a run in with the police for obeying the law:

I would tell you all about getting my face mushed up against a wall for not fully concealing my legally carried firearm in public, but right now, I’m just too sad.

In Tennessee, we have handgun carry permits. There is no requirement that they be concealed. And I love when the cops tell you not to tell them what the law is. Well, sparky, if you knew it, we wouldn’t have to tell you.

Update: I think Tam says it best:

Apparently the new fashion among crooks is to go grocery shopping with their girlfriends and make sure that someone gets a glimpse of their kilobuck-plus custom gun in its expensive leather holster

If we could all sue the police department and the city for trying to enforce laws that don’t exist, then I’d be pretty sure they’d make the street cops learn the damn law.

In this case, since the law wasn’t being violated by Colt, sue the city and the police department for battery (and wrongful imprisonment, if detained long enough). If the city law department had to defend enough (and pay enough) on these claims, there might actually be some training given.

While you don’t want cops to be lawyers (nor can you expect it), you can expect them to know what they’re doing is trying to prevent unlawful activity.

I’m not a gun owner or carrier (well, I have an old 20 gauge shotgun by the bed, but that’s it), but I respect guns and appreciate them. I don’t appreciate cops going over the line. A “Terry” stop may have been appropriate, if for nothing else than to check his carry permit and send him on his way. Being physically and verbally abused is absurd.

The officer is very likely to follow through on his of finding probable cause for charges against ColtCCO if he files a complaint. They send you the citation in the mail the same day you file your complaint. You have to prove in a court of law that it was a retaliatory citation, (basically not possibly unless the pig tells the truth on the witness stand, he WON’T).

It’s all happened to me very similarly. Man, open carrying while shopping with his wife in Fred Meyer. Mine happened in Ellensburg, WA is all.

    FOM

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
