Keeping a promise

At the Gunblogger shindig, I promised Cam Edwards that I’d be the first to pick on Wayne LaPierre’s blog. So, here goes:

I appreciate your effort and thanks. But . . .

The site is hard to navigate.

I have not found a way to link to posts from the main page.

And I can’t copy and select the text if I wish to excerpt you.

Flash is cool but it does not make for a good website, particularly a blog.

It does have a feed which allows you do find the permalink (see, it’s here). So, that bypasses a lot of that but your average reader may not know that.

Wayne LaPierre is the Al Gore of the gun rights world. A mental midget doing a mediocre job. If you’ve read any of his “books” you’ve seen what I mean.

As a rule, I hate “all content as flash” sites. There’s a number of ads, banners and flashy moving crap that I can’t stand. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I can’t stand anything moving or flashing ever since I figured out I could filter it all out. If you are going to go with an all flash site (and you shouldn’t, many browsers don’t have flash installed), at least break it up into several windows and/or include text. That way I can enable only the content I want.

Kudos for one thing, it supports flash 7. Many sites require flash 9 which just does not run on some platforms.

Kudos for two things. The feed is full text and ad free.

Unfortunatly, there’s no place for comments. Either Wayne is too big a target, or too afraid to allow (and police if needed) a feedback section. I’ve got it in my RSS aggravator, but it will proably go the same way as “teh gun goon”, Michelle Malkin, and Michael Moore.

For me, no comments = no magic.

I hate loud banners with sound. They put the “swat the fly and win an x-box” banner, and the loud fly buzz is almost enraging.

    Banners should be quiet.

Won’t load on my Treo (due to the flash) and I can’t see it on my work machine – firewall blocks all things NRA.

Doesn’t seem like it will get a lot of reach the way it is now.

OT, but seems like a decent thread to ask. Anyone have a suggestion for a good 9mm handgun with a .22 conversion unit? (I own an ACP 45 that’s a ton of fun to shoot, but it’s getting a little expensive).

If you have Mozilla, Firefox, or Netscape, install this and it will take care of your annoying flash banner problem. Of course it will replace every single flash object with a button that you need to press first before running it, and that can be a good or a bad thing.

I tried it, loved it, and wouldn’t think of surfing without protection ever again.

  7. SayUncle Says:

d, there’s a 22 conversion for the Glocks. Never used one though. Here’s one.

  8. Marc Says:

Jonathan A Ciener makes .22 conversions for several 9mm handguns.

  9. d Says:

    great, thanks

There’s URLs in the full text feed. So if you wanted to quote Wayne, you could do something like this:

If you live in Kearney, Nebraska, you ought to be hopping mad today because your city council has left you defenseless against criminal attack.

There’s no link to an archive or homepage or anything, but at least you can read the thing without getting distracted.

BTW, if this is Wayne’s blog, who’s this lady, who has her picture is in the feed too?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
