First, they wanted black rifles

Now they want the pink ones. Via Deb (who has some pics), it seems the latest scare tactic from the Brady Bunch is colored guns. They say these guns are designed to look like toys to confuse police. What a load of crap. Someone who is going to spend between $200 and $500 on a custom paint job to make their weapon look cool is probably not the sort of person who would use one in a crime.

BTW, I’d like to be a fly on the wall whenever the Bradies get together and invent their next gun issue. Seriously, I wonder how those meetings go when they’re trying to come up with a way to scare people?

Heh.. so black guns are evil and scary and should be banned. But if you paint them so they’re no longer black, then they don’t look evil and scary anymore and should be banned.

I’m beginning to see a pattern here.

“…or to only use natural firearms finishes that do not disguise the weapon.”

“Natural firearms finishes.” Heh heh heh. Natural, I’d like them to define that, thpppt. Do they want the guns to look as they appear in nature? I guess they don’t want any guns that don’t look big and black and evil for when they hold them up during congressional hearings. These people have a pair of nothin, and they’re giving their hand away.

Just how dumb do the Bradys think people are? Exactly where is the advantage of having a gun that looks like a toy? Are police going to ignore the big, masked guy charging into a bank because he’s holding a pink rifle? Are they going to be confused by what’s coming out of the barrel of these “toy” look-alikes? The police apparently do become confused on occasion, shooting people carrying walkmen and table legs, but the confusion is definitely not in favor of criminal behavior. Idiot, thy name is Brady.

“I would imagine enterprising bank robbers will soon be sporting orange-tipped weapons to give them a few seconds edge on the police and concealed license holders. If they’re willing to rob a bank armed, what makes you think they won’t apply some orange paint?”

Oddly, I had the idea of criminals putting fake red “safety” tips on their guns and/or spray-painting them bright red ages ago.

Even more oddly, they don’t seem to have done so, preferring to perform robberies with either plain real guns, or plain fake guns that look real.

I find it difficult to believe that the police won’t shoot you if you resolutely point a fake-looking gun at them and refuse to drop it when ordered. (Of course, ahem, knowing the Portland PD, they might take fifty rounds to shoot you, but they’ll certainly TRY.)

Oleg Volk did a good piece on this years ago.
