Wear a holster

Some idiot keeping a gun in his pocket tested out a couch at IKEA. The gun fell out of his pocket and was found by a 6 year old, who fired it.

Get that asshole some training (or better, take his guns away) and get ALL of the kids into Eddie Eagle training.

Well…an NAA has ridden in my pocket in a sticky sheath for 40 years…except for the period below which resulted in an incident I won’t let be repeated.

In the mid-90’s I took to carrying it in the folding clip-on grip accessory that let it clip onto my back jeans pocket with just the clip and top of the grip showing and looking for all the world like a pager (remember those?). I like it, and I could have it out, locked open and hammer back in one quick motion.

But, after taking wifey out for a Red Lobster lunch one day I got back in the truck and didn’t feel that familiar pain in the butt. Trotted back in somewhat in panic mode and that little rat gun done disappeared, likely pulled out by the vinyl booth seats and snatched up by some skanky busboy. Called my deputy buddies that I dealt with every day at the shop, gave ’em the particulars, they talked to everyone but that minigun was gone. Could have ended a lot worse but it would be tough for a small kid to get that stiff SA hammer back plus he’d have to open it to access the trigger, but still. Never heard another thing about it in the 25 or so years since.

Same thing could and does happen with crappy IP clip-ons, not to mention bad OC rigs (which aren’t allowed in The Fla anymore (see next post) but are in some places, and it’s easy to see ones at risk of being dragged out in a booth or on a soft couch or chair…so it’s not just naked pocket carry that puts your carry-on -yourself and everybody around you- at risk.

None of which is to say this guy isn’t an asshole or that I’m not either (an epithet I mostly cling to, like redneck), but I ain’t an idiot. And I learned a good lesson that I have spent the intervening years passing on to countless gun-buying customers who invariably want to skimp on a holster, or with the advent of tiny flyweight autos, go in-pocket commando.

Always use a good IWB or in the case of BUGS a sticky pocket holster and for Godsake if you OC use a retention method. Do get training and absolutely get some for your kids.

But take his guns away? Dude, careful what you wish for.

It’s the same response I have for idiot feds who do the same thing.

What handgun was that? Holster would be really useful in this situation.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
