The right to bear arms

Is coming to the Czecks.

Once again, journalism refuses to recognize that rights are individual, inherent and inalienable.

“The amendment gives Czechs the right to use firearms during terrorist attacks.”

Rights are not granted by government. Self defense is a human right.

What mikee said. So what’s happening is the Czech government is coming around to recognizing a right…maybe. If they think they’re “granting” or “giving” something they are mistaken– That would be like an armed robber who “gives” you your wallet which he just stole. He didn’t give you anything. Rather he committed a crime, and then thought better of it. He’s still guilty, and much more so if he believes he just “gave” you something. One cannot “give” or “grant” what one does not own in the first place.

    It’s an important distinction.

So we may commend them for (maybe) the cessation of their crime but that leaves some atonement left undone. We may further hope for their atonement, repentance, and the compensation and restitution of those whose rights were violated in the past.

After all that, those in the Czech government can go back to the private sector, make something of themselves, and then use their privately and fairly acquired wealth for charity, or donate their labor in the service of others. THAT, and nothing else, is “giving” or “granting”.

While some of this sounds good there is a licensing and registration scheme involved. But if we believe in incrementalism this is a small step.

Arms and self defense an inalienable right? In the American tradition, yes. For much of the world, the very idea of individual and inalienable rights is foreign.

    Baby steps.

Good for the Czech Republic. Considering they were once under Communism, this is a very “progressive” step toward freedom. I think I may need to go buy a CZ pistol.

Instapundit.com links to a different article which describes the Czech amendment to their constitution in a more correct manner regarding rights vs privileges.

    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/06/29/czech-republic-passes-constitutional-right-to-bear-arms/

Of course, it’s Breitbart.com, so I’d expect nothing less than an understanding of how rights work.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
