It’s almost unbelievable

The Hearing Protection Act was loaded into a relatively easy to pass omnibus bill. I’d have never thought that the GOP would actually advance the bill. This is good news.

The bill also expands FOPA and gets rid of the sporting purposes language.

Sebastian has a summary of the bill here.

This is a big deal. If it passes, it’s great. If it does not, at least the GOP is looking into the gun issue in a good way.

This is a hugely big thing.

“Then those gun nut better shut up for the next 8 years because we aren’t doing another one.”

This might be a consolation prize if reciprocity can’t be passed. But at least it’s a decent one.

Yeah, I’m getting an ice cream sundae and complaining I wanted a bit more butterscotch. Something is better than nothing, sure.

I honestly never thought the HPA would gain any traction. This is GREAT news indeed.

Time to go big or go home. What sez we can’t get this AND nationwide reciprocity? I really don’t care that much about “reciprocity” because for 10 years+ just carrying in New Yawk City will get you shot if a cop sees your gat or if you cap someone, duh. New Joisey? Will never set foot in that slave state. But an end to “sporting purposes”? No DD for gauges? I’ll take that in a new york minute.

The Hearing Protection part of the proposal will likely be shot down. You can’t expect any Democrat to vote in favor of “silencers” which allow assassins QUIETLY to kill people with guns! Yeah, suppressors, not silencers, I know. So do they, but they’ll lie their asses off to demonize anyone using a suppressor.

Look for the more important change to federal law to survive, however. That is the elimination of the “sporting purposes” limitations on firearms. Any step in the direction of recognizing the individual, inherent, inalienable right to self defense enumerated in the 2nd Amendment is a good move, and an important move forward.

Suppressors? Sure, I’d love to buy them for $200 each instead of the outrageous prices now maintained by the limits on supply.

There is a lot to love in this bill.

  9. McThag Says:

Bill Hughes is not allowed to vote on bills anymore, right?

  10. Jonathan Says:

Yeah… the HPA is the poison pill that is going to be blamed for this whole thing auguring into the dirt.

  11. Maxpwr Says:

And another convenient shooting, at Congressmen no less, just as this gets rolling. We’ll see how far it gets now. Embrace the suck.

  12. beatbox Says:

….and they just cancelled the hearing today because of the shooting at the baseball game.

    Hell, yeah.

I mean, cans are nice and if they’re un-NFA’d I’ll buy a few.

But “sporting purposes” is possibly even bigger, overall, and FOPA expansion is great.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
