Gun control support fades

Reports the most busted name in news. It only gins up briefly after a mass shooting then fails spectacularly. Also, urban areas now show less support for gun control.

Gun control has been losing ground since at least 1959.

There was a slight reversal about 1979. What happened late in 1978 that might influence it?

    One, the Jonestown suicide/massacre

Two, the SF City Hall shooting. I can’t say I was totally politically aware back then but that is the first media blood of the victims dance I remember. They went all out for gun control over that shooting.

But the chart shows that the push for gun control is a loser with the populace but seems to be an establishment “elite” issue on both sides. There mistake was letting the populace wake up.

The gun control activists failed after the Aurora cinema mass shooting to mount an effective national campaign in a timely manner to accomplish anything.

Then they began following-from-the-front their lead-from-behind president’s dictum never to waste a crisis. After Newtown the bills were in committee while the dead were still on the news.

There will be other crises. Their side passed hideous laws in CO, NY and NJ that will take years to fight in legislatures and courts. When the next crisis comes, or is manufactured, they will do so again.

What legislation does our side have ready to drop into the public maw and every state legislature at the next crisis, to counter the progressive one-way ratchet exerted by the opposition?

Sadly this won’t stop the idiots from touting “more support” and pushing for more laws.

echoing JKB, i understand that DiFi recounts the SF City Hall shooting at every opportunity to be an “authority” on gun violence. yes it was tragic (what death isn’t), but she uses it like George Burns used his cigar.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
