Bloomberg Comes To Town

In The City (My The City), we have a mayor, like most cities. Unlike most cities, our mayor is Tom Taylor. He has decided to go out and join Mayors Against Guns, an anti-gun group financed my billionaire Michael Bloomberg. He’s perhaps not gotten the memo that the group is misleading, promotes gun control, and that our TN governor had to quit the group so he could run for governor after joining it as mayor of Knoxville. Says hizzoner:

I have a friend who is retired military. He said there is only one place assault rifles should be and that’s on the battlefield

I run into the mayor regularly enough at a local eatery. I’ll be sure and say something to him. Something about how I will actively work and give money at efforts to defeat him should he continue his membership.

And our sister city’s mayor said this:

I think any kind of illegal weapon should be banned.

Uhm, yeah, the already are. That’s what makes them banned.

Here’s the local paper’s bit so you can leave a comment for them.

You can call the mayor at 865-273-3900.

    I don’t usually do internet memes… but…

“I think any kind of illegal weapon should be banned.”

    What is this I don’t even…

Unc, I’ve been reading you almost literally forever and this is the single STUPIDEST thing I’ve seen in that time.

And I was here through the SCOTUS decisions and fallout, and the expiration of the AWB…

    Just… wow.

  2. Old NFO Says:

Yeesh, you got a real winner on your hands there Uncle!

  3. Dave Says:

Tom Taylor is my 2nd cousin (true story)…when you see him, you may feel free to tell him that he has a relative who is a veteran of both military and police, and that he thinks everyone should own at least one AR15! I wouldn’t vote for a member of MAIG, either…family or not.

  4. TS Says:

I also think we should ban making weapons illegal.

  5. Chas Says:

After the experience of WWII, I think that it is only common sense that very Jew should own a fully automatic weapon. Nothing more, nothing less.

Except for Bloomberg. He gets nothing. Rapist thug!

  6. James Says:

“Taylor said he was asked to join the coalition by Oak Ridge Mayor Tom Beehan and decided to take a stand against illegal weapons.”

I’m sure both Taylor and Beehan would wet their diapers at the 3gun matches at the Oak Ridge I attend. Funny how the police and military I shoot with there don’t have their attitude.

  7. Paul Says:

Tell Mayor Stupid that on many streets in bad parts of cities they are battlefields.

    And home invasions are battlefields.

But if he really feels that way, why does the NYPD have ‘assault rifles’?

  8. Samuel Suggs Says:

And instead of presents he leaves you feeling angry and hopeless with your constitutional freedom’s thouroughly stomped on

  9. Blake Says:

Is your mayor preparing to commit some felonies and/or partake in some type of corruption?

  10. Austrian Anarchy Says:

I don’t know what is going on out there in Oak Ridge. Years ago I used to fly with one of their vice-mayors and he was all crazy about eminent domain. Seemed to think it was the greatest thing for government since the enclosures.

No weapon should be illegal. Using them wrong should be illegal.

  11. Ron W Says:

They’ll have to personally ban the weapons they don’t like, since the government has NO delegated power to ban weapons.

  12. Sigivald Says:

Actual assault weapons are already effectively banned (so heavily regulated as to never pose a problem, at any rate).

Does he even know he’s urgently demanding the status quo?

  13. Anon Says:

There are no illegal guns, only unconstitutional laws.

  14. MarkJ Says:

I think any kind of idiot mayor should be banned. 😉

“I have a friend who is retired military. He said there is only one place assault rifles should be and that’s on the battlefield”

Assault rifles have pretty much been illegal since the 80s (I can’t buy one, you probably can’t either).

Thats why the left made up the term “assault weapon”. Its a rifle that looks like a military rifle but really is just a civilian semi auto that we can frighten people about since it look military-esq.

Could someone with more patience than me please point this pontificator to the FBI Uniform Crime Reports, Table 20, Murder by State and Type of Weapon?

    http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/table-20

According to that, out of 373 murders in Tennessee in 2011, all rifles COMBINED (including scawwy looking black ones) were used in *seven*. Shotguns accounted for 13. Knives were used to kill 51, and hands and shoes killed 16.

Tell me again how small-caliber non-automatic rifles with handgrips that stick out are so eeee-villl?

  17. JKB Says:

Voluntarily joining this group of known felons is probable cause enough that the citizens should insist upon an independent audit of the city’s accounts.

To bastardize Jeff Foxworthy’s signature saying: If you join MAIG, you might be a corrupt mayor.

So hizzoner’s friend is opposed to the TBI having assault rifles? How about the FBI? The Secret Service? Various SWAT teams? The security forces out in Oakridge’s main industry? Oh and let’s not forget the LAPD and NYPD. This is a cause the MAIG should get behind as those organizations do no have a Constitutional right to keep or bear arms.

  18. MDN Says:

    BTW, Tick reference FTW. 🙂

I feel your pain… I live in California.
But perhaps not for very much longer.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
