What if they had a gun protest and nobody came? Well, the press would cover it

I was unable to attend the NRA Annual Meeting this year. I was a little busy. But one thing that always happens is there’s usually a protest. So, they had one in Houston. 12 protesters and 70,000 (though I have heard the number 90K kicked around) and who does the press interview? One of the protesters was promised BBQ and beer to show up.

It’s not a record. And do the chick whose sign reads “My kids (sic) safety trumps your gun rights”, you are wrong.

The media had them outnumbered. But that’s not the story!

And, you know, NRA membership surges to 5M

passed by mid-afternoon and noticed the honorable representative of Texas’ 18th district, which was a little frightening, because its well known that the most dangerous spot in Houston is between Sheila Jackson Lee and a camera

  2. Bob in Houston Says:

I got there at 9am on Friday, left around 3pm, closest thing to protesters I saw were the usual Lyndon LaRouche guys and their everpresent poster of Hitler Obama.

  3. Dewight Says:

The core constictuncy of the gun control movement ( the media) were well represented.

  4. Divemedic Says:

The Washington post on their blog is claiming that the NRA cannot possibly have that many members, and are using the reported circulation of the organization’s magazines as evidence.
The NRA responds by claiming that the magazine’s circulation was compiled in October, and that many members elect not to get the magazine. WaPo says they are lying.

I’ll back the NRA on Divemedic’s link.

I started an installment-pay Life Membership in January, and I only get the magazine digitally (and completely ignore it).

(Indeed, I wish the NRA would stop sending me so much junk-mail, and it took forever to get off all the stupid no-value email lists…)

  6. Austrian Anarchy Says:

I am a lifetime member and I chose to not get the magazine. Lifetime member as in I bought it myself, not a gift from daddy like Michael Moore.

Slightly off topic, any pictures or coverage of the Knoxville gun grab supporters from last month? The “news” did not show the “crowd” very well.

Any word on when the NRA is going to get serious about the government voiolating our rights? Is that call to repeal the NFA, or even the GCA still “just around the corner?”

Working on an article for The Freeman (FEE.Org) on the recent history of the feds violating our rights by exceeding their 2A limitations and am starting with the NFA (I like to call it the gangster tax). If anybody knows of some interesting 1930s period discussions of the act, let me know?

  8. wastme Says:

Another NRA member who wishes not to receive anything from the NRA. Spend my money in DC, not on a magazine.

I hope they keep stoking that fire. First they want to do away with the 2ndA with their lies, now they are calling us liars. There are an estimated 100 million gun owners in the US. 5 million NRA members seems low to me.

For them, it’s not how you play the game, its whether you win or lose.

  9. Ron W Says:

wastme writes, “There are an estimated 100 million gun owners in the US. 5 million NRA members seems low to me.”

The NRA is the largest and most well-known, but there are other pro-gun rights organizations, but still combining all of them would still be far short of 100 million. Only a minority of people (including gunowners) will ever take part in the defense of liberty, but then it is reported that only 3 per cent took an active part in the American Revolution.

And ALL of the Bill of Rights should be defended. Certain aspects of background checks violate the 4th and 5th Amendments and the Federal Government’s “delegated powers” re: such things are RESTRICTED by Article I, Section 8.16 and the 10th Amendment to “governing such part of the militia as may be EMPLOYED in the service of the United States”

  10. Jennifer Says:

Would have been great to see you. Maybe next year

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
