The backdoor to be open

The FBI wants everyone that makes social media type websites to install a mandatory backdoor so the FBI can watch you:

The FBI is asking Internet companies not to oppose a controversial proposal that would require firms, including Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo, and Google, to build in backdoors for government surveillance.

In meetings with industry representatives, the White House, and U.S. senators, senior FBI officials argue the dramatic shift in communication from the telephone system to the Internet has made it far more difficult for agents to wiretap Americans suspected of illegal activities, CNET has learned.

My response would be, “No, and because Fuck You, that’s why.”

This is one of those things where they’ll just keep coming back until they get what they want. Patriot act was the same thing. Had nothing to do with terrorism, it was just a laundry list of stuff they wanted but could never get passed.

Can’t they already access your information with a warrant? Assholes.

  4. Rivrdog Says:

They’ve had this capacity through the NSA for years. Except for the inconvenience to the agencies that the NSA doesn’t always give “lesser” agencies the time of day, we’ve been spied on by electronic interception ever since electrons carried data.

    I say, so farging what?

Without a resolution of what to actually DO with the data as it’s compiled, without the determination of the Courts to suspend the Bill Of Rights, the data is useless to the agencies, except for one instance.

That instance is when Civil War Two begins, and the necessary EMCON starts. The Feds will know that first, and anyone planning to join that insurgency had better realize that, too.

We need to disband congress. I mean, how many more damn laws are actually needed?

  6. HL Says:

When your healthcare becomes the reponsibility of the government, the government will claim it has the need and right to know of any activities you partake in that increase your health risk. “We need to know if he posted any risky activity on Facebook.”

Also your protected private health information becomes their business too. No more HIPPA. Your private health matters are between you, your doctor, and a bureaucrat.

I realize this isn’t a healthcare issue yet, but hold on for it.

How will the supreme court balance this with “a right to privacy”?

  7. JKB Says:

Well, they are going to use the access to send you to federal pound-you-in-the-(backdoor) prison. So it might be apropos.

  8. Bubblehead Les Says:

Hmm. Sounds like the Supply of Hippie Occupyiers who want to blow up Bridges with 2 pounds of Fake C-4 is drying up. Got justify all those Agents on the “No Longer Exists War on Terror” Payroll, eh?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
