But his trial is bullshit. Of course, there is a bit of irony in him being on the wrong side of a stupid trial. I suppose I could take the line that it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. But, no. Shitty law is shitty law. When you smear it on shit, all you get is more shit.

I disagree. The Edwards trial is important.
Most campaign finance laws are garbage, because they are written by the criminals. Good laws would punish the candidates for taking illegal money, putting the burden on them to screen whose money they accept. Instead, current laws never punish the lawmakers and threaten donors.
The spirit of the law, is that campaign funds should be treated like taxpayer funds. The campaign funds came from taxpayers, for a civic purpose.

Tell old Tom Delay from Texas about how money donated to a political campaign can be spent as hush money to cover up the candidate’s sexual indiscretions, and see how much sympathy you get.
All old Tom did was transfer money from one political account to another, in order to spend it on actual campaigns by politicians. Unfortunately, these transfers violated the law on how campaign money can be used. It took the local prosecutor, a notorious political hack, three grand juries before he found one that would even indict. Yet the charges stuck.
Tom’s political career was destroyed and now he is no longer in office. He survives as a lowly lobbyist, earning only a few million a year.
Well-coiffed John Edwards has the same horrible future ahead of him.

You want to see some ridiculous trumped up political charges, check out the case against Tim Cahill.
Cahill was the MA State Treasurer and ran for Governor a couple years as an independent – siphoning off enough votes from the Republican side to get Duval re-elected. He is charged with putting his picture on stuff! Like every other politician.
The AG prosecuting him is Martha Coakley – who lost to Scott Brown in the Senate race a couple years ago and has her face on EVERYTHING.
