And we were about to make up

Years back, I stopped altogether giving money to the Fraternal Order of Police for their support of the ban on weapons that look like assault weapons. While they’ve opposed gun control since, I’ve yet to see them actually go back and rescind their support for the ban on the most popular rifles in the country. So, I kinda thought they’d given it up and maybe I could go back to sending them money. Now, however, they’re standing behind Eric Holder. I don’t think I’d mind all that much if this wasn’t timed right before he’s about to testify on ATF allowing guns to flow into Mexico.

Speaking of, more ATF guns found at crime scenes.

Some FOP telemarketing asshat has been robocalling me for the last few months trying to get me to ‘make a donation’. If I were inclined to do so, I’d take Matt G. another pound of coffee as a show of support instead.

So far, I’ve just been ignoring the phone when it rings, thanks to caller ID. With the mood I’m in lately, I should pick it up and have this discussion with the hump on the other end.

  2. Jeffersonian Says:

Thanks for the reminder Unc. I’ve been getting the robocalls too, but it’s been so long I couldn’t quite remember why it was I quit giving the FOP money. Or answering their calls.

  3. Jeff the Baptist Says:

FOP has also lobbied against concealed carry liberalization in many jurisdictions. Which is why I don’t give them money anymore.

There’s an outfit called “C.O.P.S”, (“concerns of police survivors”) that gives financial support to families of police killed in the line of duty. Years ago, after briefly checking them out, I switched my donations to them. I somehow fell off their radar and they stopped sending me donation requests and I lost track of them, but I’m sure they’re still out there.

  5. Some DC Guy Says:

The best part is you guys don’t even realize how badly you’re about to get screwed. The “Jobs Bill” includes two provisions the FOP wrote. One is a block grant to California and other bankrupt states for police salaries and pensions. The second provision is much nastier, because if a state accepts the Obama block grant, even if they wise up and try to get their house in order, the state is then prohibited from cutting salaries or spending for 3 years.

The police unions bought the politicians in California, and they gorged themselves for ten years. Now that the bill has come, they’ve bought Obama, and Obama will make you pay the bill.

    That’s Obama’s “Jobs Bill.”

(Oh, and it does the same thing for the teachers’ unions, too.)

  6. Link P Says:

They already fund that union with my tax money taken at gunpoint. I never understood why some folks voluntarily sidle up to the barrel of the gun to get taken by them for a second bite.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
