there was a firefight

In Brooklyn, officers fire 73 rounds. Two hit the suspect. Errant round kills bystander.

Via The Duck, who notes Unlike CSI, they cannot match the round that killed Ms. Gay to a specific firearm. Odd, that. Are they in the ballistics database?

  1. John Smith. Says:

I am willing to bet it was the cops who did all the killings… I have always found it amazing how they can be sure a bullet came from a suspects gun but inconclusive when it came from a cops gun especially when the cop shoots a non combatant… What the FUCK is with that shooting percentage? Are they getting worse by the day?

  2. El Bombardero Says:

Typical cops, the tools of their job magically become ineffective and unreliable once the investigation points towards them.

“they cannot match the round that killed Ms. Gay to a specific firearm”

What that means is they KNOW it didn’t come from the perp.

  5. Phelps Says:

Eight cops, at least two of them emptied their weapons, cop got hit, bystander got hit, suspect hit twice.

In other words, a circular firing squad panic firing and hitting each other and bystanders as often as the suspect.

    From the article:

“The ballistics tests determined that the bullet that killed Ms. Gay, from a 9-millimeter gun, had markings consistent with those made by seven manufacturers’ guns, including Glock.”

Wouldn’t the officer’s Glocks have their exclusive polygonal rifling? I didn’t think any other maker used that, much less six others.

  7. Huck Says:

This shows that when cops are shooting you’re safest when you’re the intended target.

  8. John Nevard Says:

Well, forensic firearms analysis has always been more useful in determining whether it was the gangbanger with the gold-plated Jennings shooting sideways or the gangbanger with the Glock. Doesn’t really help all that much in differentiating between barely-fired German-engineered guns. Good thing the New York council forced their cops to carry guns with 12 pound trigger pulls.. wouldn’t want the inevitable hail of bullets they lay down under stress to fall anywhere near their target.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
