Too bad it’s a Chrysler

Otherwise, this is pretty cool:

Damn. That’s almost cool enough for me to forgive them for being part of Government Motors.

    Almost.

  2. Will Says:

Will never buy a chrysler or gm vehicle. Too bad. I’ll just wait for Ford to come out with something similar. Doubt any of the foreign guys would do something like this…

  3. SomeGuy Says:

Good idea, but knowing Dodge, something tells me they didn’t weatherproof the rifle compartment. I’ve owned one Dodge, and that thing never failed to surprise with low quality design and parts.

  4. Shootin' Buddy Says:

    This is simply amazing.

You realize what this means . . . guns are becoming part of the cultural norm again.

    This is a decisive victory.

  5. Jeffrey H Says:

I would prefer the guns mount not pointed at the drivers back…

  6. Nate Says:

Yeah, just wait for Ford to come out with something better, cheaper and waaaay cooler.

  7. John Says:

Anyone else find it concerning that the rifles, properly stored, are aimed directly at the driver?

  8. dunce Says:

these posts about the direction the guns are pointing presume the owners are stupid and do not know where the safety is and/or have loaded the weapon.not NRA members.

  9. Drake Says:

Wouldn’t store them like that all the time. I’d hate to get in an accident and lose the rifles to the impact.

  10. Flighterdoc Says:

Ford had something better – for the supercab trucks the rear seat had underseat storage, that could be locked, and included spacers for carrying long guns. It’s no longer offered afaik in 2011, but the older years model does fit. You can also buy such storage devices from (say) Cabelas.

And I agree: I’d much rather have the guns pointing aft. Also, no doubt the compartment leaks when brand new and the plastic will be splitting and cracking within a year: After all, it’s a Dodge.

  11. Robert Says:

Am I the only one who’s first thought was “How easy is it to break into that compartment”?

  12. Homer Says:

Now, if Toyota could only figure out how to build a Tundra with an extended cab and 8 ft bed……

  13. FightinBluHen51 Says:

If they’d ever come out with the light duty V8 cummins (I think it’s actually dead), I’d have to really consider it (even if it is a government motors product).

  14. trackerk Says:

” I’d have to really consider it (even if it is a government motors product).”

The only way I would consider it is if it came free with a fill-up at 7-11. I will never buy a government motors product, ever.

  15. Matt Groom Says:

If I was gonna buy a Bailoutmobile, I’d buy a Challenger and keep my guns in a padded or hard case in the trunk like I do now. Nice gimmick, though. It’s almost cool enough to make me consider the hideously ugly Dodge Ram.

  16. TomcatsHanger Says:

Single, center latch/locking point on a long clam shell door.

Looks very vulnerable to prying, right above the “man” in the “Outdoorsman” sticker they slap on the side.

Cool idea though. Just like to see better implementation.

  17. CMathews Says:

Just find one of these sitting in a parking lot. Maybe one that has a Browning sticker or something Mossy Oak in or on it. Pry, and take… Not too bright. And as to the direction of rifles, if someone was stupid enough to store them loaded they deserve the consequences. No reason to punish an innocent bystander for your dumb ass negligence.

  18. Lance R. Peak Says:

Homer, Toyota already makes a 4×4 double cab Tundra with an 8′ bed.

http://www.toyota.com/tundra/specs.html If that doesn’t come up directly to it just hit change, scroll down to the 5.7l longbed, and click.

  19. Adam Says:

OMG!!! What is Chrysler thinking? I didn’t see one mention of integral trigger locks, a separate lockable compartment on another vehicle for the ammo, or magic sensors that make it invisible to children. Why doesn’t it require a background check and a waiting period? Is it at least designed not to accomodate assault weapons like AK-15s? Chrysler will have blood on their hands for enabling murder when some right wing tea party extremist uses their Stealth Assault Vehicle ((C)Josh Sugarmann all rights reserved) to sneak an arsenal of assault weapons into a gun free schoolzone, put their shoulder thingies up and just start spray firing from the hip into crowds of innocent schoolchildren.

  20. Linoge Says:

You realize what this means . . . guns are becoming part of the cultural norm again.

And that is the important thing.

Sure, it is a Government Motors product, and thus not likely to be in any of our garages… but it is also a truck that is being marketed to the masses, by the manufacturer as having a specific compartment for firearm stowage.

When was the last time that happened?

  21. Jake Says:

I would prefer the guns mount not pointed at the drivers back…

If the driver is careless enough to suffer a negligent discharge, it’s better that it hit him than the innocent person in the car behind him.

  22. Skipelec Says:

    SB hit it.
Even if it is a POS implementation, the marketing is positive for us.
Would love to see the TV commercial.

  23. Rabbit Says:

I remember 1976-1979 Dodge pickups that rusted the bed away before the 12 month-12,000 mile warranty expired. No thanks.

  24. Homer Says:

Thanks, Lance. I did not know that.

  25. Homer Says:

Thanks, Lance. I did not know that

  26. Standard Mischief Says:

It took years for Toyota to decide to market a full sized truck to the US. I think they didn’t believe it would sell. Unfortunately, I think Toyota is down-sliding on quality nowadays.

  27. Chris from AK Says:

Too bad they don’t make that for my Civic.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
