VPC on McDonald

Short version: Waaaaahhh.

Kinda ironic though. This past weekend, 26 shot in gun-free Chicago. Down from 52 the previous weekend. Yet, Violence Policy Center stooge Kristen Rand’s remaining brain cells squeeze out the following:

People will die because of this decision. It is a victory only for the gun lobby and America’s fading firearms industry. The inevitable tide of frivolous pro-gun litigation destined to follow will force cities, counties, and states to expend scarce resources to defend longstanding, effective public safety laws. The gun lobby and gunmakers are seeking nothing less than the complete dismantling of our nation’s gun laws in a cynical effort to try and stem the long-term drop in gun ownership and save the dwindling gun industry. The 30,000 lives claimed annually by gun violence and the families destroyed in the wake of mass shootings and murder-suicides mean little to the gun lobby and the firearm manufacturers it protects.

That’s a whole lot of stupid, right there. From the near complete divorce from reality to the hysteria.

But those on the wrong side of history usually are prone to hysteria.

The firearms industry is “fading”? Seems to be booming, thanks in part to the Confiscator in Chief.

  2. SayUncle Says:

the entire statement is divorced from reality. Except the part about the good guys winning.

  3. Blake Says:

Again…from the opinion: “Despite municipal respondents’ doomsday proclamations, incorporation does not imperil every law regulating firearms.”

Also: “Municipal respondents and their amici complain that incorporation of the Second Amendment right will lead to extensive and costly litigation, but this argument applies with even greater force to constitutional rights and remedies that have already been held to be binding on the States.”

  4. Joel Says:

My favorite part is in the next paragraph, where “the citizens” of DC were “stripped of their handgun ban.”

That’s some creative English, right there…

  5. Guav Says:

Apparently Ravenwood is divorced from reality as well—unless someone can accurately be called “Confiscator in Chief” having confiscated no firearms, and having done nothing to restrict firearm ownership whatsoever.

We had reason to fear an Obama administration might move to pass gun control legislation. But it DIDN’T, and there’s no sign that there are any plans to do so.

  6. SayUncle Says:

But it DIDN’T, and there’s no sign that there are any plans to do so.

Holder made a push for gun control and was told to STFU.

  7. Guav Says:

I always find it “funny” how they include suicides in the “gun violence” category. They obviously don’t call people who slit their wrists “victims” of “knife violence.”

  8. Ravenwood Says:

    Guav,

I had that same thought as I typed my original comment. But then I thought about the ever increasing taxation, nationalizing health care, nationalizing the banks, taking over the car companies, coercing $20 billion from BP, etc, etc and figured the label was well deserved.

  9. BobG Says:

“Yet, Violence Policy Center stooge Kristen Rand’s remaining brain cells squeeze out the following:”

Actually, in my mind rather than “squeeze out” I was thinking more of the phrase “pinched off”, if you get my drift.

Daley must be on to something if his gun ban reduced Chicago shooting by half in just a week.

  11. Huck Says:

And I thought Paul Helmke was the king of self deluding. He done been de-throned!

  12. Guav Says:

Ravenwood, the administration cut taxes, and has not “nationalized healthcare” or nationalized the banks. You’re railing against a pre-election imaginary bogeyman Obama adminstration, not the one we actually have.

  13. Britt Says:

    Is Guav the local troll?

  14. Guav Says:

You can refer to me a troll if you wish, but it’s irrelevant to the discussion.

Obama has not taken my guns, has not nationalized the banks, has not nationalized healthcare, and I got a tax cut, not a tax increase.

Calling someone a troll does not refute what they are saying.

  15. Britt Says:

Haha you idiot. The healthcare bill will put all private insurance companies out of business inside ten years if allowed to stand. By outlawing insurer discretion with regard to preexisting conditions, it ensures that most people will sign up for insurance after they get sick, not before. Thus, no effective risk pool. Only the government will remain.

I fail to see how one can call a bank which exists entirely due to federal dollars anything other then nationalized. I guess you’re just too smart for me.

  16. Guav Says:

Nationalization is when the government seizes all or nearly all of a company’s shares and makes the day-to-day decisions of the company.

  17. Ravenwood Says:

    Guav,

You got a tax cut? You must be using your Obama Tax Hike Exemption Card.

  18. Guav Says:

No need to use my Obama Tax Hike Exemption Card—I don’t smoke, don’t go to tanning salons, don’t drink soda and don’t have a fake leg.

  19. Buck Says:

    I am with you Guav.

Barack Obama is the best thing to ever happen to the firearms industry.

Obama has not taken my guns, has not nationalized the banks, has not nationalized healthcare, and I got a tax cut, not a tax increase.

Obviously you don’t watch enough FOX news.

  20. Guav Says:

    Clearly not haha

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
