Kimberly Munley, hero and civilian police officer, saved lives when she put an end to the rampage by shooting Major Hasan 4 times, even while Officer Munley herself was wounded.

Only because she has a badge if she was a civilian she would have been a vigilante putting the public in more danger

So did this take place near base or on base? Why did a Civilian cop have to stand up to this nut instead of the active duty MPs? Or were they with her and she just shot straighter than they did?
Good on her, though. Give her the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Ft Hood has a civilian police force, and Ms. Munley was an officer of that force.
The number of people in uniformed military service is restricted by Congress. Using civilians for administrative and other non-military duties allows more uniformed personnel to perform strictly military duties.

I would point out that DOD civilian police officers do not get the LEO pay scale, the LEO retirement, do not have statutory law enforcement powers, and can not carry firearms off duty. Now might be a good time to correct this.

They can’t issue .45’s. Too powerful for the women officers who’ll complain about having to use such a “macho” round.
