Speaking of the reciprocity bill

I always said, despite his faults, Harry Reid is a friend to gun owners.

Actually, no. During the Clinton years he was a committed supporter of the Clinton anti-gun agenda, especially in the later Clinton years. He even ran ads getting a comedienne to insult the NRA and Charleton Heston during his 1998 reelection campaign. I also have seen him on C-SPAN making the snarky remark that any hunters who need semiautomatic rifles to hunt deer need to find another sport. IIRC, he actually voted against protecting gun manufacturers from malicious lawsuits during the 1990’s, before voting for protection several years later.

It is true that he has voted generally pro-gun since 2000, because he’s from a pro-gun state (mine, Nevada), and because his party isn’t making gun control a priority any more. But don’t let him fool you: I am sure that he managed the Democrat votes here, so that they’d fall just short of 60.

    Here’s a link regarding that 1998 ad:

I realize FR has its share of kooks, but I distinctly remember hearing this ad on the radio. I could actually forgive anti-gun votes–even though I would never trust that politician again–but insults I will not forgive.

Interesting. I guess since he has been gun friendly, I assumed he always has been.

If politicians have any principles, they subvert them for what’s smart politics. Their positions are based on where they can find money and votes. Lots has changed in the issue since the 90s, and Reid has changed along with it.

It will be important to keep Reid in the Senate in 2010. Very important. If you look at who’s up, we have almost no chance of switching the Senate over. We may, if we’re lucky, cut down the Dems to below 60 votes. But if Reid is one of the Senators who gets kneecapped, we’re looking at Dick Durbin being the Senate Majority leader. Dick Durbin. Think about that. Reid right now is our best friend in the world. He wasn’t yesterday, but he is today. It’s important to keep him in there in 2010.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
