Sad Irony

ABA Journal:

Mark Levy, counsel in the Washington, D.C. office of Kilpatrick Stockton who chaired the firm’s Supreme Court and Appellate Advocacy Practice, has died in an apparent suicide at the firm’s offices this morning, Legal Times is reporting, citing lawyers at the firm. According to Above the Law, the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head.

Mark Levy argued on behalf of the Clinton Department of Justice for the Brady Bill that required waiting periods and background checks on the purchase of handguns.

Could it be the guilt finally caught up with him?

  2. anon Says:

straightarrow, Ouch! that’s harsh. That said, I would like to know if it was legally registered.

Incidentally; he’s already been scrubbed from the employee roster.

    Martyr for the cause.

Unfortunate though any man’s death is, I am sure the hoplophobes will be delighted at another suicide they can blame on “the deaths caused by guns”.

  5. RAH Says:

I doubt it was a legally registered gun in DC . Like all the rest of those you believe good for thee and not for me. Also since he was planning to die he did not care if the gun was illegal or not.

Ya know, its astounding how many “Friends of Bill” have come to a violent end. It like some one is trying to erase their tracks….or at least the witnesses!.

The Post is reporting that the gun was “legally” registered to him in Maryland. Sounds like a .38 Caliber Revolver (well, they said it was a .38 – I assume its a revolver). Of course, even if registered in Maryland, it still becomes an illegal gun when in DC.

    Here’s the Washington Post story.

He was one of 24 lawyers they laid off the other day. Check out the firms heartless statement (they are based in Atlanta, not DC)

“These actions are driven by the economic downturn,” she said, adding that the belt-tightening at Kilpatrick Stockton was “structured to further the long-term success of the firm and to enhance the achievement of our strategic goals.”

  9. Chas Says:

He argued on behalf of the Clinton Department of Justice for the Brady Bill and then shoots himself with an illegally possessed .38. Seems like he’s now an argument against the Brady Bill.

  10. Robert Says:

The gun killed him. Otherwise he would be happy and healthy in the arms of his family tonight.

Perhaps they should arrest him, then.

After several weeks of taking Viagra, I got used to it and took the drug only on the weekends. Noticing the changes, my girlfriend started to ask me why I'm so active on weekends. I had to honestly confess everything. She was not upset but supported me. So thanks to Viagra, I made sure that I'm loved just like the way I am.
