More Mexico

Mexico is getting pretty bad. So bad, that Obama is talking about moving troops to the border. And the piece concludes with talks of Mexico’s problems being a catalyst for gun control. Of course, it’s dogma now.

This with past reports from DOD officials that Mexico is on the verge of collapse do not bode well.

Markie Marxist sez: “Troops to the border? Cool! Now if we could just get one or two of them shot, that would really help our gun ban effort in Congress!”

…talks of Mexico’s problems being a catalyst for gun control.

  4. Mikee Says:

I agree with the premise and the conclusion: Obama will use relations with Mexico to accept, with a show of great reluctance, something like the necessity of registration or banning all semiautomatic firearms.

So now what? What actions are underway by the NRA, GOA, gun bloggers, and the firearm manufacturers, sellers, and buyers to stop this?

More importantly, what should we be doing to advance the cause of individual liberty regarding the 2nd Amendment?

  5. dondad Says:

Don’t the Governors of the border states have the authority to send out the National Guard troops from their respective states?

  6. illinois voter Says:

One can only guess what rules of engagement our fearless leader will strap the troops with.

  7. Crucis Says:

The Governors CAN send their NG to the borders—as long as the Feds don’t activate them. If the Feds activate them—for any reason—the Governor is out of the loop and has no say in any orders given to the NG.

  8. mike hollihan Says:

Unc, the DOD papers you refer to didn’t *say* Mexico was a failing state or that it was on the verge of collapse. What they were are the kinds of disaster planning our military does all the time — imagining worst case scenarios, seeing how they’d play out and then coming up with plans to deal with those possibilities. Standard military stuff and not predictions of what’s to come.

  9. Shawn Says:

Didn’t he just say like not even a week ago he wasn’t going to send troops to the border?

  10. Lyle Says:

Sending troops to the border? If we use the popular reasoning of only a few months ago, that would make Obama a shameless racist.

  11. Terrapod Says:

Folks – I have just been in DF for work issue, Mexico is NOT, repeat, NOT on the verge of collapse. A half dozen cities near out border and a couple on the pacific coast are under siege by opposing narco drug gangs and the gangs are under assault by Federales trying to put a lid on the violence between the gangs. As to putting the NG or Marines on the border, I would say “not unless they have clear instructions to shoot any and every person they see crossing the border and entering 10 yards into U.S. territory any place other than a legitimate manned border crossing point”. Now, ask yourselves, do you see ANYONE in the present administration authorizing this? Heck, the f-ing feds are prosecuting Sheriff Joe Arpaio for f-ing doing the job that the feds won’t do. I say we put Joe up for President in 2012 with Palin as Veep.

  12. Jim W Says:

With all due respect, Arpaio is a fucking fascist. He combines a sort of simple minded authoritarianism with complete ignorance of and disrespect for the US Constitution.

He’s a great attack dog to go after criminals and make their lives miserable, but the man is way too ignorant and way too much of a strongarm to be put in charge of the country.

The best cure for liking Joe Arpaio is to listen to him talk for more than a minute. I used to be a fan until I heard him open his mouth and realized he was just a garden variety asshole with above average levels of authority.

  13. emdfl Says:

I suspect that terrapod was using hyperbole on his Arpaio for president remark. That said, sometimes you need an attack dog; especially when the criminals are breaking into your house and the police at all levels are busy installing speed cameras at intersections.

  14. straightarrow Says:

gotta go with Jim W, here.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
