These are not the FOIDs you’re looking for

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Paul “reasoned discourse” Helmke: Based on a handwritten legal opinion issued last week by a Judge in Winnebago County, Illinois, the state of Illinois could now allow 10-month old children who get FOID cards to keep 9mm pistols in their baby carriages as long as the holster covers the gun and the ammo clip is […]

Question for Paul

Friday, July 13th, 2007

How did the ATF trace these weapons? I mean, since you’re telling people they can’t, it must be *cough* true. So, it never happened, right? And while we’re at it, who are these police against the Tiahrt amendment? After all, the largest police organization in the country is firmly for it. But let Paul grasp […]

Tiahrt stays

Friday, June 29th, 2007

Good: In a blow to Mayor Bloomberg’s campaign against illegal* guns, a Senate committee yesterday voted 19–10 to pass an amendment that mandates prison time for police officers who use federal gun-trace data for anything except specific investigations. And it’s even improved: Senator Shelby, a Republican of Alabama, sponsored the amendment, which is a more […]

Now, it’s just sad

Paul Helmke at the Brady Bunch continues his reasoned discourse series. Of course, I have yet to see him respond to reasoned discourse, only the non-reasoned kind. When you’re disingenuous and have no stones, you’re not up to the challenge. It’s easier to point out the few, err, passionate individuals than it is to address […]

Shock: SayUncle agrees with the Brady Campaign

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Over at the Brady Blog, Paul Helmke notes a particularly nasty comment he received: Paul you are a Hypocrite and a Liar, Why don’t you face facts. The Brady Bunch is little more than a Mouth Piece for the ACLU, and the Ultra liberal Wing of the Democratic Party. That the Brady Bunch is a […]

Moms and guns

Monday, May 10th, 2010

Via xrlq, Momlogic doesn’t really apply the logic and goes with the standard that gun safety means no guns. Meanwhile, reader mik provides a linky list of women and guns: Shooting guns on mothers day Women calling the shots Women hunting Gun class: women outnumber men. Real women shoot back Girls and Guns: A Night […]

Quote of the Day

In response to Mike Mallowe making this stupid comment: Philadelphia Police officer John Pawlowski was not killed by Rasheed Scruggs — he was killed by the .357 pistol that Scruggs was using. Phelps responds with: C’mon guys, give him a break. He didn’t even write the article. His computer did. Heh.

Some crybaby who deletes comments that dont make nicey-nice with her worldview: I could show hundreds of statistics on why tough gun control laws should be strictly enforced, … Then why didn’t you? but the best argument is that one child’s death is too many. Trouble finding those statistics, must appeal to emotion. Via Mike, […]

More anti-gun shilling from the CSM

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

The Christian Science Monitor has a long tradition of being anti-gun and un-christian and un-science. After all, making stuff up isn’t very christian or very sciency. But I digress. The latest is this tripe (careful with that link, it may hijack your browser) from their blog: Obama’s views on gun control align with battleground areas’ […]

Chicago Tribune Staff Report (and by that, probably Eric Zorn): Gun-control advocates are weak. Whether they’re badly outnumbered by gun-rights advocates, lazier than gun-rights advocates or simply don’t have the statistical or philosophical ammunition to keep up with gun-rights advocates I’m not totally sure. But the undeniable truth is that, whenever this subject bobs to […]

Correlation

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Thirdpower correlates instances of mass shootings with their Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Ownership state rankings and gun free zones. Note that the Brady Bunch did not rank Washington DC, the murder capital of the country. Not, it’s not causation but it does indicate that gun controls don’t exactly stop these things.

Alligator Update

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Background here. Hats off to them for issuing one helluva correction: On Thursday, Feb. 8, we ran an article based on a report from the Gainesville Police Department about guns painted to look like toys. GPD provided us with a photo, which we ran in the paper and online. As far as we knew, the […]

Another case of the press taking dictation from The Violence Policy Center

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

Bernd Debusmann writing at Reuters notes that gun culture in the US is fading. And by notes I mean re-prints Violence Policy Center propaganda. In fact, here’s a link to their study. And by study, I mean a reprint of data from other sources. But it beats their usual method of calling Google searches studies. […]

More on the astroturf summit

Friday, November 30th, 2007

You’ll recall that no pro-gun people in Seattle were invited to attend a gun violence summit. After all, even though we pro-gun folks oppose gun violence, we still don’t oppose gun ownership and that’s what this shindig is about. Well, turns out some folks in the area are calling out the kangaroo court.

One of the problems for Democrats

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Is they’re living in the 90s: After all, polls in the early 90s consistently showed that crime was an important issue and 60% support for tighter gun control laws. Yet Dems are essentially done trying to push gun control laws because of the perceived efficacy of the NRA in both 1994 and 2000. This is […]

Doesn’t look so divided to me

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Seen at DAMIT’s: This is such a divisive issue. I’m a little surprised that the third option didn’t get more votes. It seems that gun control is SO divisive, people can’t be rational about it. Seems to me that according to recent surveys and your own poll (with only 3% calling for gun control) that […]

Reader, commentator and reasoned-discourse-inator Thirdpower now has a blog. So, is it like a law that if you have a gun blog on blogspot you have to use that template? Anyhoo, get thee hence and read.
