Freedom is just another word…for nothing left to lose

England is fast becoming the Orwellian nightmare that George Orwell prayed would never happen. It has now passed France as the one of the worst places for free people to live. In fact France is quickly changing and stepping away from the social democracy of the French past.

In England there are cameras everywhere and never a cop in sight. Citizens cannot own a gun or a knife for personal protection but criminals can. The insanity of social democracy has created criminal zones where the law abiding don’t stand a chance.

Now shop keepers are using sonic devices to drive away teenagers they don’t want as patrons.

There are people in America that believe this is the model for our country. They must be fought each and every time they try to take our liberties from us.

Before I even clicked on the link I thought “Bet they’re trying to outlaw those too”.

“England’s commissioner for children and a civil liberties group joined in on a campaign Tuesday to ban high-frequency devices intended to drive misbehaving children away from shops and other areas.

    Color me surprised.

what happened to simply playing classical and jazz music over the PA?

When I was a kid it was rock-salt in a shotgun.

  4. Jim W Says:

Florida’s Commissioner for Families and Children just got arrested for being an avid collector of child pornography. If molestation doesn’t keep the kids away from your shop, nothing will.

  5. Jim W Says:

Oh wait, my bad, it wasn’t the commish, just the spokesman. I guess it was wrong of me to attempt to incorporate it into humor, but oh well.

  6. Metulj Says:

I guess freedom abounds in Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland and any remaining Crown Protectorates as those are not England.

Maybe I read #9 differently than you do, but he seems to be arguing that the sonic devices themselves are the affront to freedom, not the move to ban them. Which actually did color me surprised…

The “mosquito” noise doesn’t just annoy the kids, but also autistic grownups. Check out the archives of Justin Buist, who’s on your blogroll.

Even I, who thinks he’s mostly normal, occasionally get annoyed by the noise the TV makes, even with the sound turned all the way off.

  9. # 9 Says:

but he seems to be arguing that the sonic devices themselves are the affront to freedom,

You win. Was that not clear? I can still hear in that range. Pretty offensive way to treat anyone regardless of their age.

  10. SayUncle Says:

I dunno, the devices look like the free market to me. And, honestly, pretty innovative.

  11. # 9 Says:

I think Muzak would be free market. Or playing heavy metal to keep out squares. But causing pain, that’s not free market.

Let’s see… Speech, Bear arms, No searches, Can’t have troops bunked on your futon, Free press…

Nope, I don’t see anything about “Right to Shop Anywhere”.

  13. # 9 Says:

A long time ago Sears at West Town that had a sound device for security. They left it on during the day. I would avoid Sears because the sound was so irritating. They got ride of that but I still remember how I hated shopping at Sears.

Store owners have the right to refuse service. But this is a slippery slope. No matter how annoying these kids are, they have rights also. What next, squirt guns filled with cheap cologne?

  14. # 9 Says:

    ride=rid

  15. tgirsch Says:

Careful, #9, once you acknowledge that private entities can infringe upon rights just as easily (and often more easily) than the government, you’re on the slippery slope toward realizing that libertarianism as currently argued is a bunch of crap. 🙂

I knew there was nothing prohibiting me from opening up my whites-only store! Thanks for clearing that up for me!

  16. # 9 Says:

tgirsch, I know you see me as a libertarian, but I am a Classical Democrat. Which is a contemporary Conservative. There is some small L in there. I think most Conservatives have some small L.

I think what most people miss is that this device affects the hearing of any person that can hear it. I don’t see the free market argument. If I am in that store I hear it when the store owner buzzes some undesirable kid. What about the kids that are not undesirable?

Too much collateral damage. Too slippery slope.

    “Classical Democrat=Classical Liberal”

Do you blog with a feather pen? Are you a three-cornered hat man? What about leggings with your britches? Or do you just prefer to go about in your riding boots?

  19. # 9 Says:

    Give this a spin Sebastian:

  20. Sebastian Melmoth Says:

Of the 20 or so economists mentioned in that “source” (it’s hard to call Wikipedia a source), 18 are dead, all were white and privileged, and none had a single shred of empirical evidence to support their claims. If minarchism is minimal rule, then neoliberalism is minimal scholarship.

  21. # 9 Says:

You judge people by the color of their skin and their economic achievement? Isn’t that a little biased?

Let me guess, you like social democrats like our neighbors the French and the British?

You sound a little like old pal metulj.

  22. # 9 Says:

It was you metulj, nice sock puppet name. Use the Kringle’s can and grab a different IP. But the rich white people bit gave you away.

  23. Metulj Says:

Not me. House guest. Very funny. We are laughing at you together. You do know that groups of people laughing at you is common, don’t you?

  24. # 9 Says:

Your house guest uses Oscar Wilde’s pseudomyn? Yeah, right.

  25. Metulj Says:

The funny thing is: He didn’t have to google it to know that Wilde signed himself in with that name after he was broken at Reading Gaol. Neither did I. Toodles.

BTW, England is a country, a nation, but it is part of Great Britain. Google it. It’s true.

  26. # 9 Says:

You know it is bad when you start talking to yourself. How long has the “house guest” been in your head?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
