Hero in Texas
Some guy wanted to shoot up a church. He got one round off before a firearms instructor popped a cap in his face from about 20 feet. Other parishioners were also strapped and showed up to provide cover. No other injuries, no wild west, none of the delusions of the anti-gunners and their thoughts that citizens with guns would make the situation worse.
Meanwhile, it light of the best possible outcome, the press says trained, armed citizens make them terrified.

The poor guy that did get killed haunts me a little…made me wonder how many people I provided the tools of defense for and in spite of my advice never got any actual training, and end up doing things clumsily and in slow motion making himself an easy target, especially for a dude with a shottie 10 ft. away. OTOH nobody really knows how he will react when he does face the elephant, but hopefully most like these guys who have practiced a plan will have their training take over from their thoughts.
Like the trainer guy who is like a study in contrast, extended, advancing, and on target, taking out the POS in one. Thought I remembered it being a longer distance than that; either way, nice shootin’ Tex!

The best possible outcome would have been to divert the wack, disarm and hold him for the whitecoats. Church finished in second place 2-1.

Reminds me that I need more range time. Also need to step off the distances within our church’s worship center.

JTC, the first guy shot had decided to draw while focused by the shotgun wielding bad guy. Almost impossible to do successfully. We can fantasize about scenarios where something gets shotgun focus off of him to give him better chance but that is sadly fantasy. Taking the fatal shot gave his colleagues time to finish the encounter and I salute him for that.

If indeed his actions were intended to draw fire and knowingly sacrifice himself, then the title of Unc’s post should be Heroes in Texas.
