News you can use

Tips for buying your first gun.

I have a much simpler take on it. Buy any Glock (or other black plastic people popper made by Sig, S&W, or H&K) in 9mm that fits you. Buy a case of ammo and a good holster.

    Assuming you want a pistol.
I’ve always found that a good “first gun” is a nice .22 rifle, and when the person has learned to shoot it, THEN move on

he needs to add no matter how excited you are about your purchase exclaiming “I have a gun! I have a gun!” will almost certainly not be taken in the spirit it was ment.

“Buy a case of ammo and a good holster”… by the time you have found the good holster, you’ll need another case of ammo and a box for all the bad holsters.

    No love for Ruger?

  5. Bill Twist Says:

Buy a flintlock. Once you get good with that, you can shoot anything.

Blue Hen, historically I’m not a fan of Ruger semi auto pistols although I’ve several Ruger revolvers. The recent ones are better granted.:-)

I’d amend your rule to add,
“Also buy two boxes of premium JHP from a major company, budget $75 for an NRA basic pistol or state ccw class and $200 for a defensive handgun class.”

  8. Melvin Says:

TriggerFinger, use the ammo box for the bad holsters.

Good suggestion for your first CARRY gun.

But first gun period? Got to be a .22, preferably revolver but to better prep for auto a MKIV or similar. When you’re ready rent a few nines before plunking down your cash. And you will always keep and love your .22, your first gun and there’s nothing more fun, you can find a good plinking place almost anywhere.

Buy any gun you can afford and actually shoot straight.

    That should cover it.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
