Sort of want

No practical purpose for me but this gizmo looks pretty neat.

Update: Hmm. Not sure how you could legally possess one. I doubt the thing has a serial number and, typically, serial numbers are on the receiver of the firearm and not the slide. Anyone?

It’s based on the Sig P320, where the serial numbered piece is on the removable receiver that goes inside the different grip modules. They didn’t show that being changed out, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s actually changeable and how they get around it.

  2. wizardpc Says:

Isnt the 320 the one that’s modular, and has some sort of internal frame that has the serial number on it?

  3. Ben C Says:

B&T offers a similar product for the Sig P320 since the serialized part is the steel chassis inside the plastic frame.

  4. Sean D Sorrentino Says:

I got here late to say basically what everyone else said. The SIG P320 series has a chassis inside the grip module. It might take “60 seconds” to swap, but it generally takes me longer.

  5. SPQR Says:

It’s an SBR in the folding stock config and requires at least one stamp.

  6. Other Steve Says:

There is zero legality issue here.

    – If it’s the SBR model, you need to register your P320 as an SBR.

    – If it’s the brace version, you do absolutely nothing.

The one thing that people don’t really get right away is that you now have a kinda-carbine with no safety. But for the M17 models with safety this isn’t an issue.

I see a lot of dumb stuff, this isn’t.

  7. Ravenwood Says:

My understanding is that the serial needs to be on the part of the gun that makes it go bang. For the Sig P320, that’s the removable fire control group. For AR’s that’s the lower receiver. Etc..

  8. Other Steve Says:

    @Ravenwood

No, there is no specific rhyme or reason to where the serial goes. Take the example of the AR and SCAR, they are functionally the same upper and lower config and parts split, but the AR is a serialized lower while the SCAR is serialized upper.

The serial goes where the ATF Tech Branch tells you it’s going to go. That’s it.

There are weird rules for SBRs where the barrel itself is technically allowed for engraving but no one does that.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
