Caliber wars!

Why the police went back to the 9mm. The comments are comedy gold. Haven’t seen anyone say “two world wars” yet, though.

I’ll throw in with this oldie but goodie:
    Only hits count.

Because a person can pray and spray better with a low recoil marginal round than with a more effective round that has stronger recoil.

And, you know, two world wars.

The .45 acp bullet may be a great round. But depending on an obsolete weapon like the model 1911 kind of negates any advantage. There are plenty of modern pistols that shoot the .45 that would make the round a good choice. For most people, shooting anything bigger than a 9mm pistol under the stress of combat may be asking too much. I’m used to shooting both a 9mm and a 40 cal. People who are discouraged by the recoil of a .40 won’t do any better with a .45.

I didn’t even own a 9mm handgun until about 4 years ago. Now I own several and that’s what I primarily carry most often. Must be a fashion trend or something.

LKP, that’s harsh. Even I refer to the 1911 as obsolescent, not obsolete. (I mean it’s obsolete, but I’m too nice to say it.)
Personally, I’ve been a fan of the .40 ever since I carried one for a living from about 1996 till my retirement. But I carried it in metal-framed pistols, and my present need for lighter pistols (chronic pain from on-the-job injuries) pretty much mandates the 9mm, since the .40’s recoil is pretty snappy in plastic pistols. I still like bigger, heavier bullets, but the nine is fine, even if the forty is sporty.

We’re not talking about .32s, though.

9mm is not a “marginal” round, in 2019, with modern bullet design and loads.

Even .380 is arguably not “marginal” today, but “adequate”.

For that matter, felt recoil is as much a matter of the pistol as the round; I once owned a Star aluminum-frame 9mm that was unpleasant to fire and jumpy; it was too light.

(re other comments: I love the 1911, but if I had to carry a .45, it would probably be a compact Glock.

The 118 years the 1911 has on it are showing.)

That’s not my observation. Lots of people find the .40 to be very annoying. Too snappy, seems to be a common comment, no matter what the bullet weight. In comparison, standard pressure .45acp seems to be a smoother feeling recoil, even with the much heavier 230gr original bullet. Avoid the much lighter bullet loads like the plague, though. 165gr screamers are flinch inducing, in my person experience. Makes the .40 feel like a .32 in comparison.

Heh, i may live in the USA now but I grew up in a country that follows the metric system. If I need to upgrade from a 9mm, I’m going to a 10mm, not its castrated version.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
