Owning the platform

John Richardson’s blog (formerly here) has been taken down by Google. He announced it via twitter here.

This is the danger for anyone who doesn’t own their platform. I happen to have plenty of space here if anyone wants to register a domain. Or anyone who gets googled can publish here.

I posted this on another site earlier this afternoon:

“It’s called “Battle-space Preparation.” The Left is prepping the battlefield (and it is a Battle) for 2020. They intend on taking power (NOT office) in November. Plan accordingly.”

Hmm. Yes, even after all this time, there’s still a little pot simmering on one of the back burners of my mind, and sometimes it whistles, quietly, “you should blog again”. And then I ponder hosting, etc. I would never use WordPress. I think Jekyll, or something like it. And then I think about all the other stuff I’m not getting around to.

In re. deplatforming, this is part of the plan, discussed at length: https://metallicman.com/laoban4site/what-the-progressive-liberals-have-in-store-for-conservatives/ — actually, more acurately, “weaponizing” the platforms, which of course means denying them to the opposition.

Anyways, I’ll keep your offer in mind.

Yeah, until we have a disagreement and you deplatform me!

I got off Blogger right after Google acquired them and now I run my own domain. But what’s to stop my webhost from deplatforming me? I guess I could host it locally, but I’d still need to have a third provider for DNS and a connection to the interwebs.

Ravenwood? Dear Lord! I remember that blog. Uh, but not where it went. Now I’m remembering some other old-school folks too. The Spoons Experience? Smoke My Gun? Where the heck did everybody go? (Same place I went?)

And, this just in, which confirms for me my lost affection for WordPress:

Exactly how they plan to accomplish this, I have no idea.

He is back up with the usual vague BS explanation from Google.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
