Qualified immunity is a legal fiction cooked up by the courts and needs to go the way of belief in a flat earth. Officers being legally liable for their actions will be more careful with other’s property and lives.

Thats ridiculous. A dog is only a piece of property and the restitution is only set at the replacement value. Thats absurd activism.

The bad part is that usually these settlements are paid through the municipality’s general fund or an insurance plan. It would be more effective if it was paid by directly defunding the department’s SWAT team.

$1K for shooting a dog
$749k for reckless endangerment, sending in the fucking SWAT team when someone didn’t pay their gas bill, and refusing to turn over all evidence in the discovery phase.
