We must ban coat-hangers

How the DIAS made from a coat-hanger works:

+1 for Rudy at Macon Armory. Great guy who stands behind his products.

I had a really slick 45ACP upper built by him, that unfortunately I lost in the canoe accident.

So much for keeping that genie in the bottle.

It won’t last for long if it really is made out of coat hanger wire.

A better one can be made with the same gauge of piano wire or spring stock, annealed before shaping and then properly heat treated to AISI recommendations for that type of steel; but that also will fall far short from a “real one” machined from bar stock and properly heat treated.

The LL is much easier. Jack.

This is actually a variation of the lightning link and not a DIAS, it just installs like a DIAS.

  6. HSR47 Says:

@Jack: The traditional lightning link is simply an auto-disconnector that is designed to be tripped with an early SP1 style bolt carrier.

This is just an auto-disconnector that is designed to be tripped with a standard M16 style bolt carrier.

I wouldn’t be surprised if durability is an issue as you suggest, but this is more of a proof of concept than anything else. TLDR: You can’t stop the signal; 922(o) in particular, and the NFA in general are stupid laws that need to go away.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
