They should use their talents for something useful

Some STEM kids made a smart gun to stop mass shootings. It’s the dumbest thing you’ll see today.

I give the kids props for coming up with a new way to produce a failure of a smart gun. Most often in the past, smart gun design has attempted to produce a means of blocking unauthorized gun users from making a firearm go bang.

This time around, the thing aimed at is what blocks the gun from firing. Sort of an IFF for individual weaponry. Or perhaps an attempt to engineer a way to prevent accidents when that gun safety rule is violated, the one about knowing your target and what lies beyond it (or not pointing the gun at something you are unwilling to destroy).

This is not an absolutely horrible idea for increasing the safety of firearms, in theory. In the real world, of course, it has some … problems.

Another “solution” by people that don’t understand the problem. 1 round every 20 seconds so “it’s still good for self defense”. Yeah right.

As with any “smart gun”, call me when police unions voluntarily adopt it for daily carry.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
