Will never happen

The NY Daily News advocates for police departments to start using smart guns. Says the noted gun expert (just kidding, he’s board president of Washington Ceasefire):

In the current political climate, the most promising way to save lives is by accelerating the adoption of safer firearms. And the best way to do that is by harnessing the purchasing power of police departments.

The police will not switch to smart guns because smart guns are dumb. And some police have already come out and said they’re not going to be the guinea pigs. Smart guns are not a proven, reliable technology yet. And likely will not ever be.

Is gun. Is not safe. The concept of “safer guns” is at this point ridiculous.

It seems we often give the craziest people more attention than we give sane, moral, productive people.

Of course the idea of self-deactivating firearms goes hand in hand with the war on the second amendment, which goes hand in hand with the war against the American Principles, which goes hand in hand with the war against Judaeo/Christian Civilization.

Besides which, the police don’t have very much purchasing power compared to the civilian market. Cops don’t buy guns very often and when they do manufacturers make less profit per gun off of them. Plus, if you totaled up all the police who were authorized to carry a firearm in the US, it would be just a small fraction of the number of NRA members, probably less than 20%.

Yup. There are somewhere around 900,000 and 1,000,000 full-time sworn LEOs in the US. NRA’s got what, 5,000,000 these days? Which itself is just a fraction of the 80,000,000 gun owners in the US.

I have cancer. As such, I have decided to consult with one of the leading cancer research experts, former Playboy model Jenny McCarthy. She had this to say:

“Cancer is bad, mmmkay. So, you should like, not have cancer.”

So I have decided not to have cancer. Because it’s bad. Guns are bad too, so I’ll have a smart gun.

  5. Huck Says:

Even if these “smart guns” were to be developed, some knucklehead would find a way to negligently discharge one.

Stupidity can overcome any safety feature.

  6. Ravenwood Says:

@Huck, not to mention the Russians could easily hack them!

  7. Joe Says:

Police officers wont want them because they are dumb, but politically connected sheriffs (LAPD) will gladly sign off on them. They dont care about the lives of their officers. They only care about their political over-lords.

This is actually a very smart path forward for the gun grabbers. NYPD?LAPD are great sources for pushing large orders of these guns and forcing a mandate. We need to push for legislation that bans these guns out right and bans LEO from having to carry them because they are so dangerous.

  8. SPQR Says:

The Obama DOJ proposed requirements for law enforcement smart guns are hilarious to read. It’s apparent that some real cop got into them with several poison pill requirements.

  9. mikee Says:

When smart guns do the things antigunners now want them to do, reliably, police still won’t want them, because the things antigunners want smart guns to do don’t make sense in a personal protection device like a gun.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
