Trump and gun rights

While he has a questionable past on the issue, he seems to be fairly strong these days. They can learn, you know.

  1. GunPoliticsNY Says:

Trump is full of crap. When Chuck Schumer and NY State Senator Jeff Klein introduced federal and state bills banning firearms purchases by those on the so-called terrorist list, Trump came out in support of it.

  2. Cayton Says:

The clown will say anything to anyone. All talk and no substance.

  3. Jim Jones Says:

Do you honestly believe that he would not sell us down the river if it was expedient for him to do so? I just can’t trust him. He says all the “right” things, but I trust him even less than republicans. We can scare republicans. I don’t think many people scare Trump. Therefore, he will do as he pleases.

  4. Kevin Baker Says:

He’s making the proper mouth-noises. I don’t trust him farther than I can throw him.

  5. Mike at Says:

All we have from Trump is lip service, much of which is at odds with past statements of his . He has no legislative record, nothing. Even Chris Christie became something of a champion of gun rights in the last two years ( well at least by New Jersey standards). Trump has nothing. While he would be a far better choice than Clinton or Sanders, I fear that a year or so into a Trump presidency gun owners may be longing for a Cruz or even Rubio presidency. Just wait until President Trump reacts to the next Sandy Hook style mass shooting the exact same way Obama did with a call for an assault weapons ban.

  6. Ron W Says:

Too bad Rand ran a poor campaign. He was clearly the best and most principled Constitutionalist on the RKBA. In fact, he was too good to be invited to speak to the NRA in Nashville last summer. Trump does at least point that gun free zones are the reason for mass shootings and that people should be armed there. No other candidate I’ve heard has mentioned that point. Well one other did. It was Jim Webb in one of the first democratic debates and he challenged Clinton directly that she had armed protection and the people have a right to the same.
Until these candidates acknowledge that they will be UNDER our delegated powers without which they may do NOTHING and that we have the greater rights, none can be trusted!

  7. Maxpwr Says:

Harry Reid and a younger Bernie Sanders “weren’t bad” on gun rights when it suited them, too. Cruz 2016!

  8. Michael Says:

Trump is saying what he thinks we want to hear. Don’t believe him, on anything. There isn’t a conservative or libertarian bone in his body.

  9. Will Says:

I use to be adimit that homosexuality was a cry for attention and they certainly shouldn’t have marriage rights. Over time my opinions changed. I started looking at it the same way as interracial marriage bans. So yes I believe people can change their minds.

  10. rd Says:

In 1994 I thought the AWB was a good idea. (Stop throwing things!)
I was ignorant. Friends and colleagues explained how stupid the laws were. Friends took me out shooting. By 2000 I had an AK knockoff and a bunch of pre-ban mags.

I moved to a new state that was trying to pass Shall Issue, and all I heard was “Blood in the Streets!”, “Road Rage Massacres!”, “Wild West!” Two years later, NONE of it happened. And a lot of people said the scare tactics were BS.

Talk to friends and colleagues, family members; and offer to take them shooting. Pistol, target, trap, whatever. Teach them about gun safety, teach their children. People CAN change their beliefs. And we can help them.

I think Trump has changed. I know I did.

  11. Rignerd Says:

I’ll believe Trump has changed when he says it in a non-election cycle. Until then every new position is a lie to get elected.

Same for every other politician. Have your epiphany three or more years ago and maybe it’ll be believable.

  12. mikee Says:

Cruz is good on 2nd Amendment. Real good.

  13. Weer'd Beard Says:

Will 100% true, I cheered when the 94 AWB was signed.

Of course unlike Trump, you and I talk about when we were wrong and why we were wrong.

Robert Byrd SAID he wasn’t a Klansman, but I’m sure he was pissed that a N***ER was president in his dying days.

Trump MIGHT have changed his mind, but since he NEVER talks about how he was wrong then, I agree with everybody else in thinking he’s just telling us what we want to hear.

Do you think he told his investors on his bankrupt Casinos that his proposals were on shaky ground and he’d likely go Chapter 11 and leave them holding the bag…or do you think he told them it was an amazing investment opportunity and he’d triple their money?

  14. wildbill Says:

    R. Lee Ermey says that Trump’s son shoots on his team and that Trump is definitely a 2nd Amendment backer.

  15. Sccott Says:

Trump brags that HE has a concealed carry permit in NYC and notes they are HARD to get.

But he hasn’t said one word about getting that changed for the rest of the people.

He is an “elitest” just like the rest of them.

I think Bernie has a better record on guns and I might vote for him over Trump (I will vote for Trump over Hillary).

Maybe, just maybe, if their is an avowed socialist in the WH the Republicans will have to make principled arguments against socialism.

But I’m not sure what they will do with a Trump presidency.

  16. Sigivald Says:

I have no faith he’s “learned” rather than “learned what he needs to say to get a vote”.

I believe nothing he says, because he’s shown himself to have no enduring core beliefs other than “Trump!!!!!”

    Zero faith.

  17. Ron W Says:

I can see not trusting Trump because of his past positions but Sanders has gone off the deep end on gun rights and AWAY from his past mild pro gun positions, bragging recently that he had an F rating with the NRA. He, like Obama and Clinton, wants to use the “no fly list” which is an ARBITRARY and SECRET denial of the 5th Amendment’s “due process of law” to prevent a person from buying a gun. He supports a new AWB. And he’s a Socialist. What Socialist government trusts its people with guns?

  18. Ron W Says:

@wildbill, thanks for that article. R. Lee Emery’s opinion of the M1 was almost verbatim of Gen.George Patton who I think called it “the greatest battlefield implement ever devised.” I think the only improvement would be a detachable mag rather than it’s 8 rd internal mag. It’s M1A little brother has that, 20 rd mag, but in .308 vs 30.06.

  19. The Old Coach Says:

They can learn all right. Learn to lie.

I can’t bring myself to trust Trump any farther than I can throw a Buick. One handed.

Of course, if he’d offer his children and/or grandchildren as hostages, to be held in an undisclosed location until the end of his term……….

  20. JTC Says:

    Trump/Cruz ’16
    Cruz/? ’20 and ’24

It is our only hope to keep the Republic.

  21. Ron W Says:

@JTC, gotta get those guys to let bygones be bygones.

  22. Crawler Says:

I’ll be voting for Ted Cruz in the Primary, but if I’m forced to during the General election, I’ll vote for Trump.

Of course, I’d also vote for a cleaned up apolitical wino with no front teeth and a serious speech impediment before I’d ever cast my vote for a bat shit crazy avowed socialist who wants 50 cents to 89.9 cents* of every dollar I make, or a lying, phony, pantsuit donning and felonious female.

(* Bernie the Socialist Bum has recently backed off of his 90% income tax proposal and now says he would want “at least 50%” – which I take him to mean anywhere from 50% to 89.9%)

  23. Ron W Says:

@Crawler, I have already early voted for Trump. But if it’s Cruz in the General. I’ll certainly vote for him.

  24. Muzzleblast Says:

    Trump on Snowden:

“… this guy is a bad guy and, you know there is still a thing called execution …”

That’s a lockout spec for me irrespective of how much I like the destabilization of the GOP status quo that he is engendering.

  25. Deaf Smith Says:

Better read ‘The Art of the Deal’ if you want to understand him.

Do note about his outrageous actions, “good publicity is preferable to bad, but from a bottom-line perspective, bad publicity is sometimes better than no publicity at all. Controversy, in short, sells.”

And that is why he is outrageous now. It sells.

  26. Ron W Says:

@Deaf Smith, but then the establishment political duopoly considers it “outrageous” to prefer one’s own country and people.

  27. Brad Says:

Yes, the Trump campaign says all the right things.

Which will make the betrayal of gun rights after Trump is elected all the more bitter.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
