So, just shut down Facebook in Chicago. Problem solved. Jack.

For those living away from Mordor, er, Chicago, this may seem confusing, but for those of us in the shadow of Chicago, it makes perfect sense.

Chicago is taxing the Internet: https://www.skadden.com/sites/default/files/publications/City_of_Chicago_Expands_Tax_Reach_to_Internet_Services.pdf

This is part of the prep work for making the tax stick.

I don’t know, I can maybe see it.

My understanding is that a lot of urban violence has to do with feelings of need for respect in a population with little to no prospects for the future. Add in Facebook, and the greater internet fuckwad theory, and you have people trolling each other mercilessly, without a thought for consequences, or the realization that even though Facebook is on the internet, you usually also know those people in meat-space.

So perhaps this isn’t COMPLETELY stupid.

The fix, of course, is to stop taxing the local economy into the dirt and get the government out of the way so that those people DO have prospects for the future. But that’s just crazy talk.

Although “blames” is the wrong wird, in every urban center the majority of violence occurs within loose associations. Social media is one way those associations are maintained and tracked. Focussing police resources on those known associates after violent events can interrupt the cycle. This is sound sociological/criminological research at work. So of course it is ignored by the idiot public health model researchers who ignore the people and blame the guns for what is not an “epidemic” but a constant retransmission within a very limited pool of infected.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
