Man critical of police takes some use of force training, shoots an unarmed man

Good for him for walking a mile and all that:

Educational for him and for me.

    Seems like a stand-up guy.

    That is pretty good.

Hence the maxim “Give a statist of taste of power, and he’ll shoot you.”

I think every single one of the Ferguson protesters should be required to undergo this training. It would be interesting to see how many of them would forgo the use of force in the second scenario and elect to grapple hand-to-hand with that big angry guy.

Depends on how big the guy is.

Let’s remember why humans developed tools. You cannot enjoy a nice juicy mastodon steak over the fire in your cave if you cannot kill the beast. Swords are great until a punk has a sling and some rocks. Armor is shiny and then lead pellets punch right throw the breastplate. Smokeless powder allows snipers to remain hidden.

If you take tools off the table, then the big guy wins. I was the senior patrolman when we arrested a minor league football player for literally throwing his wife down the stairs of a military housing complex in Germany while he was on a roid-rage. Guessing by his size and build….. defensive lineman. We were not authorized tazers because the military poo-pooed them and likewise OC becuase at the time it was ruled chem weapon. We had 9mms and batons. It took 6 of us to get handcuffs on him. When Polizei later serached the residence he had 6-7 unregistered guns. We were able to get his Akita locked behind a door (I know some of you would assume we shot the dog). And we got his 2 year-old son out of harm’s way and into the hands of neighbors.

It took 6 healthy, grown men. It was a slow Sunday morning. We had 3 patrols that could respond. Had it been me alone….. I probably would have had to shoot the dog because it would have been upset once he began to bleed out.

I did a house clearing exercise two days in a row in a pistol class several years ago. The first day, I overlooked one of the bad guys and got “shot” in the back. The second day, I shot all the bad guys and the hostage and the police officer.

I used to BE the big guy; 6’1 and a solid 250. I could pick up a bag of concrete or an engine block and throw it at you. Heck, I could probably pick up you and throw you at the planet, to the detriment of both. Sciatica and some illness later, I’m still big, but I could never hope to stand up to a street thug armed with a pointed stick, never mind three or four of them. I now fully realize the power that tools give us. Trying to deprive me of my tools will not go well for you.

Well done video on all parts.
Rev. Jarrett Maupin wants to have a bigger footprint than he has now. (good luck in apathetic Phx)
Maybe this experience will temper some of his kneejerk reactions. At least I know now he’s more of a standup guy than I gave him credit for.

Bruce H. Had the class been in Russia, you probably would have gotten an award for good performance in that second run!

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
