SHOT headliner OK with gun bans

Comedian Bill Engvall will perform at SHOT. Trouble is, he supports banning the most popular rifles in the country:

He also said in that video that he’ll compromise with people calling for an outright repeal of the Second Amendment and ban guns that shoot too many rounds that would ruin meat while hunting.

Someone should give him his sign……

  2. Ron W Says:

By what method would he have his favored ban enforced? Oh, let me guess, by guns, of course!

  3. Lyle Says:

If legal gun ownership becomes only about hunting, then the second amendment will have been effectively repealed. There are several examples of countries having nothing like our second amendment, and they have provisions for hunting.

Entertainers, it seems, are interested in being liked and not so interested in making sense or being right, which is a polite way of saying that they’re egotistical cowards. To suggest to the average entertainer that standard capacity magazines in the hands of the militia would better serve the security of a free state would throw him into a tizzy. That’s completely out of his realm of thought and experience, and so he’ll regard it as crazy or extreme.

And so the question becomes; how, in America, the land of the free and the home of the brave, did this cowardly and denying state of mind become a cultural norm, and what might be done to correct it?

And they shut down comments at http://www.shotshowblog.com/comedian-bill-engvall-perform-shot-show-state-industry-dinner/

    How quaint.

  5. Hank Says:

So he’s one of the Fudd’s I been hearing about (spit). He thinks the anti-gunners will let him keep his huntin’ guns if he meets ’em halfway and let’s them ban semi-autos. What a dumbass.

  6. NotClauswitz Says:

He’s not very politically astute or tuned-in, is he? Maybe SHOT should un-invite him unless their intention is to hoist him on his own petard and use him as an *example*….

Does nobody vet the “talent” for these things beyond reprinting a puffy presser? This dude is a goodol’boy poser who has made a good living traveling around with that other insipid poser Foxworthy, so why wouldn’t they expect him to be a gunnie poser too?

I mean, nobody wants to blacklist every entertainer who doesn’t support all of their Constitutional rights, else the approved list from that PC world would be a mighty short one, but this is a gathering of, for, and by gun people ferchrissake.

How about a simple two-question qualifier: 1.)Do you support the unfettered access to firearms by law-abiding Americans? 2.) Do you agree to forfeit your fee and to pay a like amount to this organization for breach of contract if proof is found to the contrary?

Might limit the pool somewhat, but it would save the embarrassment of hiring more Leno’s and Engval’s. Ain’t gonna happen, but I like it.

SHOT is all about puffery and vaporware anyway. Having worked with trade shows before, I’m here to tell you that the promoters are VERY afraid of negative publicity which will crimp their gate. Perhaps if a few gunbloggers returned their press credentials with an appropriate explanation, Mr. Engvall will be dis-invited.

  10. Alien Says:

As JTC points out, above, no one at NSSF vets these people? Or thinks about their pedigree? Hollywood is an incestous far-left ghetto; recruit “entertainment” from there and it’s pretty much guaranteed you’ll get a leftie.

And, why does NSSF think some sort of humorist entertainment is needed at SHOT in the first place? If it really is (which I doubt), since SHOT occurs each year during the same two week period, in the same place each time, it shouldn’t be that hard to plan 2, 3 or 5 years in advance, and have a backup plan or two.

Maybe it’s time for NSSF to get out of Connecticut and move to Texas before the liberal northeast culture rots their brains completely.

Must be the same guys that book Jay Mohr for the NASCAR banquet every year

Chris Dolnack of NSSF has a twitter feed regarding Bill Engvall where you can comment here: https://twitter.com/chrisdolnack/status/546076769498202113

Of course, I doubt it’s going to go far with Chris. His Twitter is full of nice little tweets and call-outs showing his love for people like Fast Company execs – the same people who pushed the “These Gun Control Ads Will Actually Be The Scariest Thing You See Today” meme, timed to influence the mid-term 2014 elections. The subtitle of that little Fast Company expose was that voting for pro-gun candidates literally puts blood on your hands.

Chris spends little time thinking of gun stuff – other than marketing SHOT. He focuses most of his energy on corporate culture (which he absolutely adores) and marketing concepts like (irony alert) “How Being More Self-Aware Can Help Your Brand Succeed on Social Media”.

His twitter feed is open. We should remind him who pays the bills for all those gun manufacturers he claims to represent. I sent a message using other means (I don’t want a Twitter account).

And could the people at NSSF seriously stop stepping in their own poo all the time? Maybe hire some people who actually give a rat’s ass about our community other than marketing schtick like, “4 Ways to Ramp Up Mid-Funnel Content Creation”?

Would it be so hard to stop hiring California marketing people who obviously understand nothing about our community?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
