Hmm. It uses blanks (says their website) to propel the projectile.

And it’s obviously not muzzle-loading, from watching. (With sound off, since at work.)

Seems like this is an SBR, and maybe a DD, then?

(Because it fires a projectile from expansion of exploding gunpowder, and is not a muzzle-loader.

And because projectile diameter over .500″ and barrel length is patently under 16″, at a glance.)

I’d guess they could probably get an exemption letter, since it’s plainly useless for mayhem, though…

  2. Alien Says:

The audio on the video says “…..ported barrel that’s capped on the end…..” and the barrel has large visible ports in the sides. So, if the barrel is closed at the end, that prevents a case-mounted projectile from leaving the gun. Although, a 12 ounce soda/beer weighs about 5500 grains, and assuming a velocity of 250 FPS, that’s about 765 ft/lbs of energy, which might smart a bit. It would make a pretty good bean bag launcher.

  3. Kristophr Says:

It is a muzzle loader, since the projectile is loaded from the front.

A blank round and a separate projectile does not count as fixed ammunition.

  4. Kristophr Says:

And exactly how does a muzzleloader fire a projectile, sigivald. I’ll bet it has something to do with exploding gunpowder.

The current BATFE definition of a firearm is something that uses completely fixed ammunition ( cap, charge, and projectile ) in a breachloaded cartridge.

  5. SD3 Says:

I shall find a legitimate use for this can cannon. As God as my witness, it shall be thus.
(Launching cheap beer into sporting stadiums?)

  6. Sigivald Says:

    Kristopher: Ah, you’re right.

I was thinking of the CHARGE loading determining “muzzle-loader”, but yes, you’re plainly correct.

  7. Rivrdog Says:

    Serious fireworks launcher, too.
