Get off my team

Range owner won’t allow Muslims:

Not all muslims are terrorists, but almost all terrorists in the world right now are muslim. Since you can’t determine by visual assessment, which ones will kill you and which ones will not, I am going to go with the line of thought that ANY HUMAN BEING who would either knowingly or unknowingly support a “religion” that commands the murder of all people who refuse to submit or convert to that religion, is not someone I want to know or do business with.

Well, how about:

Not all men are rapists, but almost all rapists in the world right now are men.

Or:

Not all black people are gang bangers, but almost all gang bangers in the world right now are black.

I’m guessing she’d get sued and lose over this. Anyway, I’m with Sebastian and Caleb that it doesn’t cast gun owners in a very good light.

Actually firearms and alcohol laws both allow you to refuse service to anyone for any, or even no, reason whatsoever.
Its not like housing or employment where it is illegal to discriminate.

  2. Dirk Says:

Fact: no white Christian American has ever bombed an abortion clinic, lynched or bashed someone due to their race or sexual orientation, blown up a federal building, assassinated a political or social figure, or shot up a school. If any of them (just a single one of them) ever had done just one of those things, it would be completely okay for me to demonize the entire group for that minority’s actions. Thankfully they have not. Whew.

  3. mikee Says:

Dirk, I read the first few lines of your comment and just about went ballistic, until I read the last few lines.

    Got me good.

  4. Paul Kisling Says:

So what? His business his choice. Piss off. If you don’t like it go elsewhere. Really Simple.

  5. SayUncle Says:

He’s a her. I agree with your position on property rights but it’s bad marketing. Anyone who does that wouldn’t get my business.

  6. Paul Kisling Says:

No doubt it is tasteless marketing. Fortunately for her there are plenty of tasteless people that will go there for that reason alone.

My reasons for not going have more to do with me looking like what she hates.

  7. Cargosquid Says:

So…..how DOES one determine religion preference by visual inspection?

    Google “white Muslim.”
My tour guide in Kuwait, of their Great Mosque, was a blue eyed, blonde English Muslim girl.

  8. jefferson101 Says:

I’m not yet to the point of demonizing all Moslems, but I do have this tendency to start to reach for my carry gun when I see one most anywhere.

It’s a problem that I refuse to go against my instincts on if I don’t know them personally. Even if I do know them personally, I may be a bit cautious around them.

Sorry, and if that makes me a bad person I’ll just have to be one, but it’s just like black teenagers with sagging pants. I go into condition red if I don’t know them, and that’s the truth.

I can’t imagine why anyone would be nervous around either group, but I just am, for some reason.

    So it goes.

  9. Bram Says:

No winning this one. If she keeps the Muslims out, she gets called a racist. If she lets them use her range to train, then they shoot up a mall or school, she gets crucified in the press.

It’s her range, it used to be a free country, do whatever you want.

  10. topofthechain Says:

So, just because you don’t like someone praying to the east, doesn’t make them not worthy of the right to bear arms and training in the use of them. I think I’m gonna go stand in front of a mosque and help defend their liberty.

  11. Pleycan Says:

If it were only praying to the east, I could see your point. But when you rent a gun to someone, and sell them ammunition, that is an act that requires trust. This is one business where giving someone the benefit of the doubt can get you and a bunch of other people killed.

Given what I know about Islam, about how it encourages moslems to lie to infidels, to kill infidels, to enslave infidels, there is no way that I could bring myself to trust them with my life, or my employees lives, or my customers lives, or the lives of others in my community.

As to recognizing them, young men of middle-eastern descent, especially with a foreign accent, are just not that hard to spot. I suppose there are a statistically insignificant few Jihadis who can fit in to our culture – the gun culture – without standing out, but nothing’s perfect.

  12. Skip Says:

    Fuckim’.

  13. Linoge Says:

I’m enough of a jackass that I firmly believe that businesses should be able – and I do mean legally able — to deny service to whomever they want, for whatever reason they want, up to and including “No Irish / Jews / Blacks / etc. allowed”. After all, we stand up for all rights, and that includes property rights. And given that customers already have the ability to patronize – or not – whichever business they decide, those businesses will live, or die, based on those decisions.

By the same token, just as blaming all firearm owners for the actions of a stark minority is stupid, so too is blaming all of any group for the actions of a stark minority also stupid.

  14. benEzra Says:

    @Pleycan,

So you’d ban those of Israeli, Persian, or Christian Arab descent from your gun range, as well as peaceful Muslims (unless they had the “right” skin color), but you’d allow the guy who beheaded his coworker in Oklahoma last week to shoot away?

Should Baptists be barred from gun ranges too, given that a small minority of Baptists has gone around killing “infidels” in this country from time to time?

The Founding Fathers intended for freedom of religion to apply to Islam, too (read their writings; some of them explicitly named Muslims as a protected group alongside Christians under the umbrella of Liberty). Barring someone from a gun range solely because of their faith, rather than their actions or their propensity toward violence, is un-American.

  15. Ron W Says:

But it’s all OK when government officials and agents want to restrict or deny guns to all of us while they keep them for themselves.

  16. Lyle Says:

It’s your property, you do what you want with it, and none of what you do reflects on me.

I thought we were opposed to group-think, so why are we demanding that some other gun owner behave a certain way for our benefit?

What DO we believe in? If not property rights and all other individual liberty, then what?

There are several casinos nearby that hire ONLY “native Americans” and some people think that’s cool. I don’t give a fuck, ’cause they’re not my casinos, but it’s fun to be able to see through all the total hypocrisy.

  17. Ellen Says:

“Not all men are rapists, but almost all rapists in the world right now are men.”

The Instapundit has been highlighting female rapists, and the differential sentencing they get. That statistic may or not be biased, but it’s definitely not reliable.

  18. Crawler Says:

How anyone can call a sect that praises a 6th century blood thirsty murdering conqueror and pedophile a religious bloc is beyond me.

    Screw ’em all…

  19. Seerak Says:

I thought we were opposed to group-think, so why are we demanding that some other gun owner behave a certain way for our benefit?

    Who’s doing that?

Being opposed to “group-think” necessarily includes being willing and able to disagree with and criticize individuals of one’s own “side”, no?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
