It is a violation of federal law to use this product in a manner inconsistent with its labeling

How to protect your family during a home invasion. Except, instead of telling you something useful like have a gun, it says to use wasp spray. That would be illegal.

And experts say noise is the best deterrent when it comes to home invaders.

Hmm, .45ACP is pretty noisy. So is a 12 gauge.

  2. Robb Allen Says:

Jake, I was going to say the same thing.

Gotta love how the people who think it’s just awful that you would shoot someone and kill them instead want you to blind them with a chemical spray that they (and you and your family) will inhale, and that they can absorb through their skin and swallow.

Lung irritation, eye irritation, skin irritation, absorption through skin, etc. CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM effects.

This way, rather than shooting your burglar you can, instead, hose him down and leave him either debilitated or dying a long lingering death.

Reminds me of a verse from Proverbs–Even the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

  4. The_Jack Says:

Simon: “intent” and signaling. Having a gun shows you “intend” to delpoy lethal force. And that’s worse than actually using it.

Also improvisational defense is seen as more noble and underdoggy. And it shows that you’re not *paranoid*.

Yes, getting the proper tool and training with it is paranoid, but learning which household poisons are best to spray isn’t.

  5. JKB Says:

That’s a shame. Twice this year, I’ve had red wasps charge me when spraying a nest. I’ve hit them both dead on at about 8 feet. I was thinking of getting a firearm in the form of a can of wasp spray since I seem to have a natural talent for shooting wasp spray accurately during an attack.

  6. mikee Says:

JKB: What is the Tueller distance for a wasp nest?

I know my wasp spray will shoot about 20 feet, and I use every inch of that distance.

  7. KJ Says:

JKB, sounds like you need a gabbett-fairfax Mars Automatic. It has a very similar grip angle. They do happen to be collector’s items so it may cost you a bit…

  8. dustydog Says:

fyi – it isn’t illegal. The law covering wasp spray is the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). You can discharge a whole can in your house, no legal problem.

The ‘manner inconsistent with its labeling’ is specific for for non-residential uses, intended to keep farmers from using too much and pushing natural selection to evolve pesticide-resistant wasps.

The controlled media can’t be telling the slaves to use firearms to defend themselves. That’s a privilege reserved to the authorities and their agents.

  12. Tam Says:

I don’t feel justified in shooting somebody, so I’m going to spray nerve gas in their face instead” said no sane person, ever.

  13. Windy Wilson Says:

The_Jack, I agree with you, but the suggestion is even screwier than you’ve said so far. Premeditation? Keeping insecticides by your bedside seems just as premeditated as keeping a gun by your bedside, and just as paranoid. There’s evidence of preparation, as no one uses insecticides in one’s bedroom and then leaves them on the night stand, and certainly night after night. There’s no evidence of improvisation, as there would be if you hit them with the clothes iron from the ironing board or paring knives as they fought you down the hall and into the kitchen.

If one attacks an intruder with anything kept for that purpose, a crooked DA can spin it in the right jurisdiction as luring the helpless, innocent, choirboy criminal into your home by means of keeping it nice-looking in order to maim him by insecticide or carburetor cleaner or WD-40.

  14. Joseph Hertzlinger Says:

I thought those laws were aimed at The Golden Book of Chemistry Experiments, which told kids how to create poison gas from ordinary household cleaning supplies.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
