Where Great Britain Used To Be

A complete work stoppage because someone found a long discarded round of ammunition.

Seeing the hysteria at a couple of rounds of old ammo, I’m happy that my father’s grandfather moved from there to Canada and then the US in the late 1800’s. The only other mention of the place in the news I remember is a Worksopian(?) in upstate NY killed his wife and child, fled back home, but is now doing life in a NY prison. Make that double glad…

To be completely fair to the homeowner and worker, in the place that used to be Great Britain, chances are had one of them picked up the live round and disposed of it (or even walked it down to the police for them to dispose of it), they probably would have been violating half a dozen laws, including I’m sure, some on proper lead disposal. With that sort of insanity, I wouldn’t want to touch the thing either.

“I couldn’t believe it. I’ve got to keep the kids out of the garden until it is removed.”

“I’m worried what else could be there.”

Yeah, because obviously there’s something dangerous here.

Nobody’s quite sure what the danger might be or how it would work, but plainly it’s there, because of an old cartridge.

The Brits still find unexploded German bombs in their backyard gardens and hand grenades in grandpa’s garden shed.

While the PSH is overblown, the risk that something bigger and more splody was buried where ammo is found is relatively real there compared to here.

Oddly, the last few stories I’ve read about unexploded ordnance being dug up were reported as “tut, tut, stiff upper lip, nothing to worry about once the local lads in green carted it off!”

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
