Does anyone make a double edged safety razor that takes two blades?

I think the blades would have to be two different sizes to get the slope correct, and there’s only one standard size of safety razor blade.

Of course, you could design a holder that held two standard-size blades at an offset but only exposed one side of them.

I don’t even understand the question. Are you looking for four cutting surfaces, or to try to duplicate teh wrong headed cartridge systems, or what?

  3. Miguel Says:

I did a search…apparently no stacked double safety razors are made.

So here’s the thing. Given the questions you’re asking, you probably have skin like mine. What you should do it use the DE for the first downward pass, then use a triple edge for all remaining passes. You still want to use your good whipped up cream (assuming you were and weren’t using canned cream). You’ll notice a difference, it will be smoother and your face will not feel sanded.

    I don’t even ….

Several owners ago, before you shaved, when Wilkinson Sword was still from England (and there were wolves in Wales), they made a bonded pair double-edge blade that gave a twin-edge shave in a standard safety-razor holder. Sadly they have been NLA for most of your life.

It was tricky keeping sheared whisker out from between the blades, but before the handle was “free,” it seemed worth it. Didn’t catch on; or rather, a lot of other things caught on more.

Now that everything old is being invented yet again, I’m sure they will be back. They tell me they’re doing amazing things in China now. Watch for a reality star to endorse it on late-night TV.

    Someone’s working on it….

Is there a double-edged straight razor? Because that would be awesome. Wonder if ACA would cover the result.

A guy really good with chopsticks could probably manage it with two razors. You’d need a special strop though.

I would just stick with multiple passes and a good preshave lubricant. Go with a cross grain pass for the second pass.

Are you asking how to get a better shave?

Practice is big. My first six months I needed 6 passes for an acceptable shave, today I get the same result in 2 or 3 passes.

And using a pre-shave oil made a world of difference for me. Never thought it would, but it is a huge difference.

Also, different blades provide different shaves.

Not something that has ever occurred to me. My favorite thing about safety razors is they only have one blade so I’m not getting the extra (and unnecessary) irritation of a second pass.

  15. Bob Smith Says:

You don’t need it. Double edged razors were invented by Madison Avenue to create something new which a lot of people automatically believe because it is new, it must be better. Just shave the same spot twice.

See, this sort of thing is why I just stick with an electric.

  17. The Redactor Says:

Use Merkur blades in your safety razor. They are a good balance of sharpness and forgivingness.

    Use this stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Cremo-Astonishingly-Superior-Shave-Cream/dp/B009WQH8SA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383017053&sr=8-1&keywords=creamo+shave

Two down-passes. One up-pass. Touch-up pass as necessary.

The most important part, and the hardest part to learn is that you NEVER press down. Let the razor just rest on your face. Don’t push down.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
