Suppose the dog did not understand the officer?

This was driven home to me when I was living in Spain, my (German AUSTRIAN)landlady’s dachshunds only understood German AUSTRIAN and Spanish.

  2. Will Says:

I’m from Albany. The ironic thing is that at the gun show last weekend, there were cops raising money to buy bullet-proof vests for police dogs. Looks like it’s everyone else’s dogs that need body armor.

  3. Bill Says:

To be fair, Will, it’s everyone else that needs body armor when the cops are around in general. Not just dogs.

  4. Weer'd Beard Says:

    A JACK RUSSELL! Seriously!

Is there anything a Jack Russell can do to a uniformed peace officer that grades above a “Boo-Boo”?

  5. Gerry Says:

To PO Officer Jones I say, Grrrrr, snap, grrrrr!

  6. CaptDMO Says:

“Because dogs speak English”, and obey commands from strangers, whose smell they’re not familiar with, that are threatening the “known territory” of their masters.

I gave the officer the command to “step off….”.

  7. Linoge Says:

Sooner or later, a cop is going to shoot a dog and be perforated himself.

And, frankly, I will not shed a tear.

  8. Geodkyt Says:

    Linoge —

Hell, that was the beginning of the Ruby Ridge incident.

  9. Kristophr Says:

    Poor training, as usual.

If a dog threatens to ankle bite, the posties use a can of peppermace.

If the dog is too big or too aggressive to be effected by it, then, yes, a shoot may be in order if the owner can’t control the animal.

But as usual, these are all training and policy fails.

  10. Jennifer Says:

Jack Russells certainly think they are big and mighty, but seriously? Fear for his life? Too many cops jump straight to shooting the dog.

  11. KM Says:

Usually the cops say “the dog was aggressive and there were no commands being given by the owner”.
Seems shoot first and don’t even get asked questions later is the order of the day.

  12. Sigivald Says:

He was “in fear for his life”.

    From a Jack Russel.

  13. Joseph Says:

They jump straight to shooting the dog because they always get away with it.

  14. Paul Says:

Now if I try to slug a cop, he would tass me or pepper spray, if not whack me with a ASP baton. After all I can bite to.

So why do they shoot the dog instead of that?

To me, unless the dog is large and attacking, I see no threat that needs lethal force.

  15. I.B. Blackman Says:

I hate to hear about stuff like this but im assuming from this mans name that he is of african american decent and i know that fear of dogs is instilled in at a very young age in the african american community
especially in homes where there is no father present

  16. Pinandpuller Says:

I did some residential delivery last week. I probably met up with 10 dogs including a Great Pyrynees. Not once did I feel my life was in danger. Actually one was probably a Jack Russel/Pit Bull mix.

  17. SD3 Says:

P’rolly called it a ‘bitch’ befo’ he dun shot da’ little ‘ho.

    Rasis.

  18. Bill Says:

He probably had watched that recent Direct to DVD release “Rabid Mutant JRTs Gone Wild” and had a flashback/PTSD episode.

  19. Mu Says:

Of course the officer was fearing for his life. At 6 ft 300 lbs, once the dog gets under the belly overhang there’s no way for him to even see it while it leisurely devours him.

  20. J Says:

Using that logic, this officer would shoot the ocean after telling the tide not to come in.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
