Gun registration in the US

I think so. You’re a fool if you don’t think the .gov knows who’s buying guns.

Again, yes, ATF even admitted on national television (the program was entitled “Day One”) that they have an ongoing registration effort.

  2. Bill Says:

Well, yes. Just logical thinking will get you to understand that. Think NSA. A giant signals interception agency.

With this ol’ thing. (Let’s not even talk about the newfangled tech.)

You have to “phone” into the NICS for background check.

    Tadaaaaaa.

This isn’t even tin-foil hat realm.

  3. Jim Says:

We should all sell a bunch of our guns to each other, repeating the cycle 3 or 4 times. Cash only, handshake deals.

Not our bestest favorites, of course. I understand that. But enough to utterly bork the system.

Will it fix things? No, just slow it down a bit.

  4. Weer'd Beard Says:

All these big-news Mass shootings, and the speed that they track down where the gun was bought shows that they have a registry.

From the Navy Yard shooting where the FBI traced the gun without even INVOLVING the ATF shows that the Registry is not a tightly secured one, nor is it being collected in even a remotely legal fashion.

  5. SD3 Says:

    Gun registration? Sure.

Now what are they going to do about all those leaky row boats in America? I swear, ever’ time I buy a new gun, my fishing boat sinks the very next week.

‘Bad luck’ is wehat it is. Very, very bad luck.

  6. Bubblehead Les Says:

Keep in mind, the Federales can trace what you buy through your Credit Card Purchases. Plus they can access those records at any store that takes plastic. So, if I wanted to know if someone used their Visa to buy a Glock at the Ye Olde Gun Shoppe, or if Ye Olde sold a Glock on such and such a date….

  7. Bubblehead Les Says:

Besides that, keep in mind we also have a DOJ under Obama and Holder that ignores Supreme Court Rulings even when they are specifically aimed at them. Just look at what the DOJ is doing going after States and their Voting Systems vis-a-vis the “Civil Rights Act.”

So do you think that this Admin gives a Rat’s Ass about Gun Registry being Illegal?

  8. Jack Says:

Which is how they could have traced the Naval Yard shooter.

They had the make and the serial #. The MFG has logs of what FFL they sell which # to.

And then it’s just getting the FFL’s data.

That a registry was not required for the above does not mean that there is not one.

What the above shows is how little “dot connecting” is required to collect existing data into a registry.

  9. Mu Says:

I guess they can get around the “no registry” rule in part by keeping a sales log. Even if they don’t have the buyer’s name, as long all it takes is a call to the dealer to get it from his record they’re in the clear.

  10. Seerak Says:

#3 Jim: I thought of that, organizing “sterilization” or “sanitation” parties. I doubt they’d be effective, though, as they already know who has the guns now, it’s a safe bet that those will be the people who still have guns, even if not which guns.

They know who the regular buyers are, and that’s most of that battle.

We’re gonna need a bigger boat.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
