But remember, I’m just anti-police

I mean, even though my dad was a career police officer and all

Anyhoo, I got some grief over the whole locking down a city and going door to door is not exactly what should happen in ‘Murica by Instinct. Because, you know, I hate cops and stuff.

But explain to me how this is a request for a consensual search?

If I were a Bostonian, I’d be looking at getting a gun.

As to your last point, I do offer a free range trip for anyone in the area who has never shot a gun.

I will be cranking up the new shooter machine a notch in the wake of this debacle.

  2. Instinct Says:

Do me a favor, don’t link to me. If you want to be all butt hurt that I don’t agree with you that’s your business so keep it on your side of the fence.

Oh, and guess what, my dad was a career cop too, as well as both my brothers, so tell me what the hell that proves?

  3. Instinct Says:

Oh, and since your so smart and knowledgeable, how would you have handled the situation?

  4. Huck Says:

Those aint cops, it’s the Schutzstaffel, USA varient. Plus, those folks are lucky that the cops didn’t waste their dog in their time honored tradition. I hope that the homeowners checked to see if any valuables were missing.

And before anyone starts howling, my dad was a cop on LAPD from 1947-1951 so I’m familiar with cops too.

And I’ll tell you how it would’ve been handled by DECIENT cops. You ask permission to enter the premises, ask the residents if they’ve seen anything/anyone suspicious, ASK for permission to look around, thank them and leave. You DONT treat people like criminals IN THEIR OWN HOME! One more thing, what that video showed WAS A HOME INVASION! Last I heard, that’s a crime.

  5. Matthew Carberry Says:

Your link doesn’t go to any forcible entry. And the “aggravated assault” evidence is bullshit. Per every training I’ve had, civ and military, my muzzle goes where my eyes go in an active threat environment. A search for a long gun possessing, proven to shoot at cops and everyone else, suspect is not the same context as day to day carry. To claim otherwise is, quite frankly, puerile.

  6. Matthew Carberry Says:

    Sure, -now- the link works…

That’s inexcusable. But if I have a long gun, and I’m in a threat enviro, my cheek is on the stock as I’m tracking movement.

It isn’t “assault”, it is how long guns work.

  7. Seerak Says:

Do me a favor, don’t link to me. If you want to be all butt hurt that I don’t agree with you that’s your business so keep it on your side of the fence.

…says Instinct, on Unc’s “side of the fence”. Something about kitchens and heat comes to mind….

  8. Read the Law Says:

    Matthew Carberry,
You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about:
    http://www.criminalattorneyusa.com/assault-with-a-deadly-weapon/
“An assault with a deadly weapon occurs when an individual is put in fear of bodily harm. The harm doesn’t actually have to occur, …”

This was forced entry. Several men outside your house pointing guns at you and ordering you out of your home with hands raised clearly meets that threshold.
These police officers should be ashamed of themselves.

  9. Rob Crawford Says:

“Oh, and since your so smart and knowledgeable, how would you have handled the situation?”

Simple: “We ask people to be alert and call 911 if they see anything unusual. If you do, remember that the subject is armed, dangerous, and desperate.”

Armed, desperate men being chased by the police happens EVERY DAY in the US. Locking down a city, a curfew, everyone stay at home — that’s MASSIVE over-reaction, to the point I was wondering if there wasn’t another threat we weren’t being told about.

  10. Rob Crawford Says:

Per every training I’ve had, civ and military, my muzzle goes where my eyes go in an active threat environment.

A “civilian” does that, they’re going up on assault charges. Guaranteed.

  11. SPQR Says:

    What Rob said.

And Instinct, if you don’t want to be linked, don’t use the Internet.

  12. Phelps Says:

Hey, Instinct, you don’t get to drive-by argue at people on the Internet and expect them to just take it. Welcome to 1992, when the rest of AOL figured that out.

As for a better plan, how something that will actually work, like asking people to keep an out for the suspects, and call it in when they see it? Like, you know, what ACTUALLY WORKED IN THIS SITUATION.

  13. Phelps Says:

Carberry, your “training” is defunct and defective. The Ready positions exist for a reason.

  14. SayUncle Says:

I’m not butthurt. I asserted something, you disagreed and I brought up a counter point. That’s how this works.

And as for a better plan, what Phelps said.

I actually contend that the lockdown delayed his capture. The police couldn’t look in his yard and see something out of place. But the home owner did in about 10 minutes.

  15. Instinct Says:

Right. And hey, thanks for removing the link like I asked… Oh wait, you haven’t.

  16. SayUncle Says:

No. And I won’t. And what you actually asked for was for me not to link to you again.

  17. Instinct Says:

Yep, that’s what I figured from you. While everyone should bow to your requests and demands, the rest of us should just fuck off, right?

Would have been nice if you actually quoted what I said instead of making shit up.

And what I said was “Don’t link to me” there was no ‘again’ in there.

  18. Instinct Says:

Drive by, Phrelps, so leaving a comment is now ‘drive by’. Wow, I didn’t realize I had to give a dissertation to get your stamp of approval.

I just love how all you armchair tac-ops guys are so knowledgeable about how to handle an active shooter situation. Those range days have been amazing I guess. Did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express too?

  19. wizardpc Says:

Leaving a comment and then getting pissed off that someone responds to it is drive-by.

  20. emdfl Says:

Woke up very early one morning to the sounds of some dude running past my bedroom window; followed by the sounds of several voices doing same. Flipped on the outside lights, picked up the .357 and walked to the back door. Just as I got there, someone rang the bell so I looked out the closed blind and saw a cop in plain-clothes dude standing about six feet back from the door holding his badge in plain sight over his head. opened the door without displaying the pistol and found out that they were chasing a violent drunk through the neighborhodd.
And THAT’s the way it should be done.

  21. Phelps Says:

I’ve got a blog, you’ve got a blog. If you are butthurt, call me out to both your readers, and we’ll so how much it stings me.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
