I’m not convinced

But a warning We Are Entering a Dangerous Time for our Gun Rights

No, he’s right — I’d say gun rights are as vulnerable now as they were in the period running up to the 1968 GCA. If the economy continues to worsen, with the social instability that is likely to bring, we may start seeing the types of violent acts prevalent in the late 1950s and 1960s. Given enough of those, there may be a groundswell of support for further gun control. And not a single new gun control measure will touch your guns (probably no new Assault Weapons Ban).

The policies that may gain traction include magazine capacity for handguns/rifles (10 for handguns, 5 for rifles); massive excise tax on ammunition; registration of all ammunition purchases (online and retail); outright ban on online ammunition purchases; limits on “military-grade” ammunition (anything above .38sp for handguns, for example) as is the practice in civilized nations like Mexico. If passed, I fully expect a Roberts Supreme Court to allow these limitations under the 2A (“The 2A protects your right to keep and bear arms; it says nothing about ammunition” and so on).

Ironically, the only thing (the ONLY thing) keeping this country from blowing apart at the seams is the obscene amounts of federal money being handed out left-and-right to the underclass and the long-term unemployed. When the money ends, though….

    “Interesting” times ahead….

I believe this so-called “Groundswell” is just the Preparatory Phase of another Assault on the RKBA. How far it goes depends on the Result of the Election. If the Republicans lose the House, AND the Democrats keep the Senate, AND Obama gets Re-Anointed, with the Political Structure thus reverting to the way it was after the 2008 Election, I expect that Gun Control will rear it’s Ugly Head.

But if the Republicans KEEP the House, but Obama and the Senate stays the Same, the next attack will be though the Courts. Keep in mind, if one of the “Conservative”Judges on SCOTUS dies or retires, then comes ANOTHER Obama Appointee, and the Rubber Stamping of Imperial Edicts from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. begins.

  3. HL Says:

Executive Orders…tears are an executive order away. As I have said, if he wins, what is to stop him…if he loses…what is to stop him?

I am not convinced that Romney would undo any 2A EO’s.

I got a idea why don’t they allow full disclosure of your mental health records as part of the registration process prior to buying a gun.If you are under psychiatric care you may not be able to buy a gun.

I dunno, seems gun shops can’t seem to keep “Assault Weapons” and “High Capacity Magazines” in stock.

I certainly know the ONLY reason why the AWB passed in 94 was because the “Wonder Nine” craze had JUST started and people were skeptical, and AR-15s and AK pattern guns hadn’t yet become very popular with most gun owners.

Also back then if somebody owned a gun they were involved in some formal competition or they were hunters, and formal competitions weren’t yet done with AWB guns.

People vote away rights they don’t think they need. The TSA is allowed to cup our nuts because most people only fly once or twice a year, or maybe only fly a few times a decade, or never at all. They don’t have pat-down screening at Subway and Bus stations people people won’t stand for that because people USE those things every day.

Gun Culture 2.0 use semi-auto pistols and rifles. Their magazines carry more than 10, and they like to have a gun on them, and they buy ammo online.

Laws attempting to take those things away will fail.

TIM: “I got a idea why don’t they allow full disclosure of your mental health records as part of the registration process prior to posting a comment online. If you are under psychiatric care you may not be able to speak in any way, shape, or form.”

    There. Fixed it for you.

Perhaps: “I got a idea why don’t they allow full disclosure of your mental health records as part of the registration process prior to being completely safe from an unreasonable search. If you are under psychiatric care you may not be able to have any privacy.”

Or maybe: “I got a idea why don’t they allow full disclosure of your mental health records as part of the registration process before you can refuse to have government soldiers quartered in your home.If you are under psychiatric care you may not be able to refuse to have government soldiers quartered in your home.”

Where does it end, TIM? I have no “mental health records” and I live in a free state that does not register guns or owners…so you think I should not be able to be free?

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
