This is a profit center for the state. I’d love to run a business with that margin. Don’t believe me? Look at the numbers.

So the state got $41.4 million.
Cost to process those 360k permits?

I’d guess less than an hour each, to check off the paperwork and fill the envelope with the permit, at a pay grade of $40,000 per year or ~$14 per hour. So about a cost of $5 million.

Even if it takes two hours to process an application (which would have to include a long lunch to fill the time) and the pay grade is $80k/year, the cost is only $20 million. Good margin on that business.

Of course, the 360k applicants have sent in their paperwork over several years. They should be encouraging every citizen to get a permit, at a profit margin of >50%.

Of course, I don’t know if there is one clerk or many employees dedicated solely to the task of approving/denying permits and associated record keeping, or if the state has added an entire bureaucracy to do this at a cost of multimillions per year. I’d guess the latter.

The data is a zero short on the gun purchase number. Should be 162mil not 16mil

Thanks for Phenick for pointing out the numbers for the gun purchase was wrong. Did not check the commas, and posted on line too fast.

Wait. Did not the state government assure us that fees are collected solely to pay the expenses of performing checks and maintaining records? You mean they lied? It’s just another tax? And the Suepreme Court has already set precedent that you may not tax the exercise of a right.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
