  1. Dann in Ohio Says:

I see a lot of .22LR, tube fed rifles in the photo of pile of guns turned in… or as New Jersey calls them… assault rifles…

    Dann in Ohio

  2. Bram Says:

Is the AT4 Trainer the one the shoots a 9mm tracer that has the same trajectory as the rocket? Always wanted to try it.

Chief Dumbass only needs to look down that tube to know that he’s holding nothing more dangerous than some PVC pipe. Once a real AT4 or LAW is fired, the tube is nothing but trash.

  3. Weer'd Beard Says:

Yeah I heard “Rocket Launcher Bought back” and I knew it was a lie. Of course this is better than the lie when somebody had the fiberglass carrying tube for a rocket launcher and called it a “Rocket Launcher”.

BTW Bram, I know a guy who has an M72 LAW, and while a bit of a chore he CAN reload it. Also while we were shooting it at a range trip a Viet Nam Vet noted that he was ordered to destroy the tubes before discarding them because of fear that the VC could re-arm them.

Hey but think, they get those cool pictures of rusty .22s and bubba’d milsurps, and probably Grand’pa’s old deer or duck gun that none of the grand kids really want.

I mean its not like cops actually want to go into dangerous neighborhoods to solve violent crime.

  4. The Duck Says:

Thought the same yesterday mil-surp surplus empty tubes

  5. Fred Says:

It’s probably just an empty tube.

If anybody has one laying around, I’d love to have it. I’ll gladly outpay the PD and cover shipping!

  6. Pakkinpoppa Says:

If you look, it says “TRAINER” on the tube. The way he’s holding it, it’s actually upside down.

  7. Pakkinpoppa Says:

Wow. And I’m assuming that those folks likely got screwed out of “fair market value”, plus those guns will be melted down.

Though there’s probably a good pile of broken items in that stack.

  8. Weer'd Beard Says:

    Pakkinpoppa.

Its probably 70/30 Of family Heirlooms inherited by people who piss their pants when handling guns, and worried that Neo-Nazis will murder them if they even stop in the parking lot of that place that sells guns (or think it would be illegal for them to sell them).

And of people with broke junk guns that would cost far too much to fix.

  9. IllTemperedCur Says:

The bigger problem with the expended LAW tubes in VN was that the VC used ’em to make a particularly nasty booby trap, by loading them with a bunch of grenades with the pins pulled, and setting them in trees. The tripwire would release the grenades to rain down on the target below.

  10. Mu Says:

I always wonder how these “no questions asked” gun buybacks handle class III stuff. Unless they get a “no prosecution” guarantee from both the state and federal AG.

  11. Sigivald Says:

Mu: Well, from the POV of Joe Gangster getting rid of evidence, it doesn’t seem to be a problem; if it’s a machinegun the drone buying it won’t even know unless told, and if it’s a short-barrel… all I know is I’ve seen pictures of ’em in the piles, so plainly they take them.

As for the liability of the police department, it might well fall under the evidence or confiscated illegal goods exception; after all, it’s not illegal for a PD to possess an unregistered NFA item for purposes of evidence, just as it’s not illegal for them to possess a small mountain of cocaine.

(Equally, government entities are exempt from tax stamp requirements under the NFA, so that’s not even an issue…)

  12. Alaskan Says:

WOW…no one has said it yet??

That cop is taking the LAW into his own hands.

there..I said it, and I feel better for saying it.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
