Saving the country

On the local talk radio, they advertised for Sean Hannity’s radio program. In the commercial, Hannity said something almost exactly like we must defeat Obama to save the country. How is Romney going to save it? And from what? He’ll continue the big government, big spending policies that Obama and Bush perpetuated. It won’t change.

We have TSA out of control, EPA threatening to crucify oil makers, all manner of rule by fiat of federal agencies, and a growing class dependent on government. The only way that’s going to change is if someone cracks down on the bureaucracy and starts firing people. That won’t happen. Option B is going to be when the bills actually come due and we can’t pay them.

As for Romney, this seems to fit most people.

I’m staying home. I voted myself into this and I’m not voting my way out.

If you’re going to stay home, then quit your bitching about something you want no part of.

  2. SayUncle Says:

    That makes no sense.

  3. Andy Says:

Funny, you keep crying about “taking you ball and going home” Just do it and shut up about it already. We get it, you don’t like Romney and you’re going to sit out the general election. So, if you choose not to participate then quit bitching about it and don’t bitch about the outcome of the election you choose not to be a part of.

Have you tried running for office yourself? Or do you have an excuse for that too? All politics are local.

  4. SayUncle Says:

No and no. I’ll bitch all I want to and that’s that.

  5. Jailer Says:

I’m not at all enthused about Romney either, but no way in hell am I staying home on election day. This election is about removing Obama and his Chicago cronies. Period.

  6. el bombardero Says:

My typical response when people tell me that I need to go to the polls and vote for the lesser of two evils

  7. irish red Says:

Man, whoever is forcing Andy to read SayUncle is a mean person.

Anyway, I’m voting Johnson or Paul.

  8. SayUncle Says:

Well, I do have the luxury of living in a state where my vote doesn’t matter one whit. It will go red regardless. Might change my mind in a swing state.

  9. Weer'd Beard Says:

My personal feeling is that Romney is worker who likes to stack up accomplishments. Obama is a guy who has been coddled by the cradle of Affirmative action as “Special” and “Great” despite never doing ANYTHING.

There’s no way to be sure, but I predict Romeny will work hard to pass bills that expand government, raise the cost of living and limit individual liberty, and the GOP Partisan hacks will support him because he has an “R” after his name.

Meanwhile Obama will make speeches, apologize for America being a bad awful, terrible place, go on expensive vacations, and pose for photographs. Any laws presented by his party will be hung out to dry, while the GOP will oppose the bills because they have a “D” next to their name.

Sorry, I’m rooting for Obama, because I’ve lived under Romney. Also Romney was replaced by Patric who is VERY much like Obama in these ways, and I can’t say things didn’t get better.

    Obama 2012…seriously.

  10. el bombardero Says:

Even if Obama is ousted, nothing is going to change. In fact, things will continue to get much worse. Obama is bought and paid for, but you don’t think that Romney is too? Nobody at the top has this country’s interests at heart. This country is already fucked, changing the letter after the name of the clown sitting in the throne is not going to change that? R or D, they both can’t wait to fuck us. It’s not that Romney doesn’t exactly fit into the mold that Republicans want in a president, it’s that Romney is just as corrupt and evil as Obama has been. And Obama is just as evil and corrupt as Bush was, and Clinton before him, and Bush Sr. before him, and Reagan before him, and Nixon and Johnson and so on and so on. Obama didn’t ruin this country, he’s just pouring more gas on the fire.

  11. mikee Says:

You may not vote your way out of our current problems in this election, but you can vote your way toward a way out. Maybe Romney will nominate Ryan for Treasury Secretary, or enough Tea Partiers will get into the House to make a difference, and things will be better long enough to make them right later.

Staying home is equivalent to a vote for Obama.
You wanna be remebered as voting for Obama? I sure wouldn’t.

  12. breda Says:

It must be so nice to live in a state where you can vote your conscience without any real repercussions.

  13. franxredhot Says:

Staying home is as good as a vote for Obama, and,by doing so,you forfeit your right to complain,IMO.Romney may not be the ideal choice, but he’s gotta be better than what we have now.

  14. SayUncle Says:

you forfeit your right to complain

    No, you don’t. That’s stupid.

  15. Mike M. Says:

Supreme Court, people. It’s all about the Supreme Court. Do you really want Obama picking any more justices?

Kiss the Second Amendment goodbye if you do.

  16. Bubblehead Les Says:

Ditto Breda, but we live under the same Buckeye Political System.

But I’m voting for Suck Ass Romney for only one reason: EVERYTHING Obama has done to date has just been Practice.

I’m just crossing my Fingers and Praying that the Troika of Obama, Reid and Pelosi doesn’t come back.

But I’m still stocking up on “Beans, Bullets and Band-Aids” Just In Case.

  17. SGB Says:

I’m not buying Romney as an alternative to Obama. It’s like the difference between chicken shit and turkey shit. Either way we lose.

  18. Andy Says:

Wow, you’re being a big freaking cry baby cause your perfect candidate is either: 1. Out of the race. 2. Still in the race and no one knows them. 3. Unable to raise funds. 4. Pick any two of the the previous three.

Really, all this crying from you makes me wonder how blue you are. Crying about the choices, crying about not going to vote, telling us you’ll cry about the outcome of the election you’ll avoid. Put on the big boy pants and stop the tears.

  19. SGB Says:

    @Andy

I don’t have a perfect candidate. I’d settle for a decent candidate. (That burns)

  20. SayUncle Says:

Who’s crying? I’m just pointing out there’s not even a decent candidate, much less a perfect one. Never been a perfect one.

  21. Swamp Thing Says:

I used to say the same thing. Then a friend said, “I can make you vote for Romney in three words.”

    I said, “No way.”

    He said, “Justice Eric Holder.”

I’m voting for the Mass. Moderate.

  22. Christopher Burg Says:

People need to realize that politics is nothing more than a game. In this game you can be one of the players, one of the commentators, or a member of the audience.

In this game the players are the politicians. While they often try to make the audience feel as though they’re involved they really aren’t. The players don’t care what the audience says or does so long as they keep buying tickets and condiments. Sure, the players may take advice from the players once in a while but never for anything meaningful. Can you get one of the players to show up to a charity event? Sure. Can you get the players to try a different play? No.

Then there are the commentators. Like the audience, the commentators have no real power but merely point out what’s happening. This is the part every blogger plays.

Ultimately you can feel as though you’re part of the game by voting for one dictator or another but, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter because both options you’re voting for are exactly the same. You wouldn’t be offered the ability to vote on the game if you could actually change the outcome.

I’m not voting for Romney, Obama, or anybody else. They can choose to play their game but I’m done buying tickets.

  23. HL Says:

If Obama wins, you will lose your gun rights…all he has to do is appoint one more justice.

If Romney wins, you may lose your gun rights.

I get Uncle though…Obama will not win Tennessee, which is where we are, so why bother?

The only reason I can see to bother going to vote myself is that I would like the popular number to be as much in Romney’s favor as possible just to hurt Obama’s feelings.

  24. Greg Says:

Obama is a miserable, lazy failure. Sadly, Romney is a useless tool who will say anything to get elected and who believes in nothing.

Gary Johnson doesn’t have a chance in hell of winning but at least I can vote for somebody with policies that I agree with and not have Romney shoved down my throat. No, Johnson’s not perfect but at least he’d prefer to leave me alone.

F’ both of the parties. They got us into this mess and neither wants anything other than to stay in or gain power over our lives. May they both burn in hell.

  25. 4strokes Says:

Amen Swamp!!!!!! Sotomayer, Kagan – really bad. Holder OMG!!!!!!!!

Does Romney suck? Yeah, maybe. But if the last 3+ years of BHO have not opened your eyes to where this maniac will drag the country in another 4 you have not been understanding what you read here and elsewhere. I know Obama SUCKS!

So, if you must, you should look at this as a choice between a slow decent down slippery slide (which will still allow us to HOPE for a better day) and the express elevator directly to hell from which there will be no return.

A good choice? No. A clear choice? Yes.

+1, if there is one reason apathetic gunnuts should vote, this is it. Heller and McDonald victories will be watered down if not overturned.

  27. Rick Says:

If it really bothers you to vote for Romney (it does me), then don’t. But don’t stay home on election day when you could be voting for everything from dogcatcher to U.S. senator.
And yes, I’m in a real “vote for whoever’s not the incumbent” mood this time around.

  28. Casey1911 Says:

Uncle may not lose his right to bitch by abstaining from voting, however, he will still undermine his arguments to a degree. No one is saying that Romney is the savior to libertarians that Obama was supposed to be to the left, but he’s a world better than Obama. Is it really too much to ask to take an hour to help show a distaste for Obama? I know where you’re coming from in your frustration, we all are frustrated, but what can you possibly gain by not voting? Furthermore, I assume you and others like you who are frustrated with the process would be willing to fight for your rights, literally. I think it’s shitty for a person to be willing to do that without first exhausting all options, like, ya know, voting and giving the next President at least a chance before you give up on the process. If Obama wins, and they somehow try to come for our guns, how can you protest if you didn’t even vote. At least if that were to happen under a Romney that you voted for, you could say you tried everything else. (I know that even with Obama that outright gun confiscation is unlikely, but I’m sure they though something like that in England at one point)

  29. Mike Says:

The reason we keep getting candidates like Romney is that people continue to say “well, he may represent 99% of what I absolutely don’t want running the country, but at least he’s 1% better than the other choice” and voting for them.

Romney as President would not fix anything Obama has done. He will not shrink the government. He will continue to pass bills that spend more and make the government bigger– except that the Republicans in Congress will vote for his agenda because he has an “R” next to his name.

  30. Fiftycal Says:

What state are you in? How about local/state races? You going to sit them out also?

  31. Tim Says:

When people tell me there is no difference between two candidates I usually subtract 20 points from my previous estimate of their IQs.

  32. Blue Water Says:

There are other things to vote for besides the POTUS! You should at least go to vote for those!

  33. Christopher Burg Says:

When people tell me there is no difference between two candidates I usually subtract 20 points from my previous estimate of their IQs.

Likewise, when people tell me there is a difference between two candidates I usually subtract 20 points from my previous estimate of their IQs.

  34. Blake Says:

Insert obligatory Ron Paul post here.

  35. ParatrooperJJ Says:

If you won’t vote for Romney, please vote for the Green Party, it will help to keep them on the ballot.

  36. Nylarthotep Says:

Must be nice to live in a state where it doesn’t matter if you show up. I live in a swing state, and though small I figure I have to make the effort.

Barry has proven to be exactly what we thought he’d be.

Biggest worries about another 4 years of hope and change:
    1) SCOTUS debalanced
    2) 4 more years of Fast & Furious and whatever they want to do next.
    3) A DoJ that doesn’t enforce the law and hinders the states from applying the law themselves.
    4) BATFEieio getting unleashed by a president who now can take on an anti-gun agenda with no further worries
    5) A president who now can take on an anti-gun agenda with no further worries and will use his presidential powers to move all things to restrict gun rights.
    6) An out of control EPA shutting down as much of the fossil fuel industry as it can
    7) Obamacare Breaking the bank and then will never be removed
    8) Foreign policy that just doesn’t make any sense at all and will likely get worse when he gets more flexibility to work with the Russians. To do what? I don’t know, but I’m betting it won’t help the US.
    9) Crony capitalism that makes all other president’s records pale in comparison

I could go on, but I won’t. Most of what I’ve listed are only things that Barry will likely do. I didn’t mention the TSA or GSA getting better, or elimination of out of control spending, because frankly I don’t think Romney will be dramatically different. I don’t disagree that Romney will be another big government Republican. But do you honestly think that Obama getting back in will be only slightly worse?

One last thing. Complaining is your prerogative as is not participating in the vote. It just makes many people take you less seriously when you make statements about problems when you aren’t willing to make a minor effort to make a difference. (Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about that as your state will likely go for Romney and your participation isn’t required.)

  37. PMain Says:

Given Romeny’s faults & there are tons… Do you really think he’d have allowed:

    Fast & Furious

Shut down gulf drilling after being ordered to re-open

Attacked coal & oil refining via EPA

    Sued Arizona over SB1070

Let Black Panthers off for voter intimidation

    Assumed Zimmerman is guilty

    Appointed Sotormeyer or Kagan

Allowed the ATF to demand report of sales of multiply rifles in just a few states

    Denial of the Keystone Pipeline

Appointment of “CZARS” bypassing Congressional authority

There are concerns about Romney, but given just a few items I was able to rattle off in a second or two about the continued Presidency of Obama, there can be no justification for not supporting the Republican candidate.

I live in CA which means my votes counts for nothing, but I’m sure as h3ll not going to face future generations & say I decided to stand down because I didn’t like all of a candidate or they didn’t meet my wish list. Because nothing about Obama or his policies is what I want. If I can reduce them by 2/3 or half, I’m damn sure going to vote that way & then focus on making changes in Congress, aided by, hopefully, 2 or more Constitutional respecting Justices.

  38. Kirk Parker Says:

I’m completely flabbergasted by you folks that can’t tell the difference between “bad” and “worse”.

Oh, and also: A.G. Holder, Justice Sunstein and/or Justice Chemerinsky.

  39. Sebastian Says:

Romney will be the Bush Administration part III and IV. He’s surrounding himself with all the same people. So yeah, I wouldn’t expect major shrinkage, but part of the reason that’s the case is people like their big government, but don’t want to pay for it (higher taxes) so we run deficits. Romney isn’t the kind of guy who’s going to make voters face reality.

But either way, I only need one thing from Romney, which is to put better people on the Supreme Court than Obama would. If he does only that, we have a chance of getting reasonably strong Second Amendment protections from the courts. Is a Romney court pick guaranteed? No. But Bush Sr. went 1 for 2, and 1 for 2 was enough. There is virtually no chance Obama will put a vote for the Second Amendment on the court. If Obama gets another two years, I think Heller and McDonald will be overturned, with the best case scenario being it gets narrowed into essential meaninglessness.

  40. Linoge Says:

I am not voting for Romney, but neither am I staying home.

There are other options (besides Obama, of course), and the more people who vote for them, the more other people might sit up and take notice.

    Might.

In other news, no one is forcing anyone to read this site.

  41. Johnny flash Says:

Remember all the people that sat up and took notice when all those other people voted for Perot instead of Bush Sr? I think Hillary sent them thank you cards.

  42. Linoge Says:

You know what you get when you succumb to a self-inflicted false dichotomy logical fallacy and force yourself to choose between “shit” and “more shit”?

    Shit.

  43. Tim Says:

Apparently Linoge is under the impression that if he does not choose he will not be subject to the shit.

  44. tony Says:

So your panties are in a bunch because your candidate didnt make it and Romney is a phoney. SO What! Do you think the hardcore lefties are gonna sit it out because Obama didnt go full single payer, close Guantanamo, and sign an exec order turning all guns into plowshares? No, because they long ago realized something alot of right wingers still dont get…. You can wipe your ass with principals and convictions if you don’t have any power.

You want to be on this site 4 years from now discussing how crazy unfair it is that the Supreme court just reversed Heller, I dont. A Supreme Court flipped left by a second term Obama appointment wont be hurting us for 4 years it will destroy us for the next 25. There might not be the political will for more gun control in congress now, so people arent worried. Things change and a pro 2A SC might, in the future, be our only savior.

  45. Crawler Says:

Any candidate would be better than the pseudo-Marx in the Oval Office that free Americans are currently burdened with.

    Alpha, Bravo, Oscar…(but I repeat myself)…

  46. nk Says:

I agree with the people who are concerned about Supreme Court appointments. So Romney, hoping.

But, also, Obama’s narcissism. That’s all he’s played on, all his life, that he’s liked. Let’s tell him we would like him to spend a few billions of our money less for vacations and golf games.

  47. SGB Says:

Re: SCOTUS appointments – what evidence suggests Romney would nominate judges who are sympathetic to the 2nd amendment? Some of the toughest Justices on firearms were appointed by Republicans. If Romney nominates people with his philosophy little will be different from Obama’s insane nominations.

  48. Mike Says:

And if we go and elect Romney, we get four more years of big government, and when his time is done, they’ll give us another big government Republican to vote for. Eventually a Democrat will win again, and we’ll all hold our noses once again and vote for another big government Republican because “he’s better than the Democrat.” It’s a never-ending cycle that will not end until the voters make it end. A vote for Romney is a vote for more of the same. There are other choices. Until the voters wake up and start paying attention to the other choices, we will remain screwed.

  49. Linoge Says:

Apparently Linoge is under the impression that if he does not choose he will not be subject to the shit.

Uh, no, why do you think I am encouraging people to consider the alternatives?

  50. nk Says:

Yes, guys, Reagan gave us Souter, but he also gave us Kennedy, the most freedom-loving of the present Court.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
