More on the Florida shooting

I’ve made it clear my thoughts on the shooting of Trayvon Martin. Pretty much, it seems to be death by mall ninja. But this case proves how poor a grasp the press, liberal blogs, and anti-gunners (but I repeat myself) have on Florida’s no duty to retreat law.

It’s always about race: Dark hispanic = white, when it fits a narrative. And, of course, the rise of insurrectionist militias isn’t being spun the same way. And it looks like the FBI’s civil rights division is involved. And folks are advocating taking his permit without due process of law.

This is going to get ugly.

On CNN last night they referred to him as “half white, half hispanic”.

Of course, being hispanic is an ethnic designator, while being white is a racial one.

You can be all white and all hispanic, but you’ll rarely hear anyone identify themselves as such.

And injecting race or ethnicity is totally noncupatory (incompetent, irrelevant and immaterial). Unless Martin was threatening imminent death or great bodily harm to Zimmerman or to another innocent person, Martin committed murder.

  3. nk Says:

    Oops, *Zimmerman committed murder*.

Now wait? Isn’t this oxymoronic? Are the same folks who want to take the alleged shooter’s gun permit without due process advocating defending civil rights?

His skin isn’t the right color for them to care about his civil rights. Plus, he’s an evil gun owner, so he doesn’t deserve civil rights anyway.

Actually, the Sharpton angle in this is not really Zimmerman, but the Sandford PD, which seems to have done an overly swift and sloppy investigation. Simmerman is being roasted for being possibly bigoted and obviously stupid; the police department is being accused of having a long term bias against blacks, and their exoneration of Zimmerman is claimed to be merely the latest and most serious instance.

  7. SPQR Says:

The claims about Sanford PD doing a poor investigation seem mostly based on nothing more than that Sanford hadn’t released all the information that they had yet, so people are falsely claiming that Sanford PD did not do any investigation when the news media turn up something.

The Atlantic has been publishing crap based on just that logic and banned me when I pointed it out.

I just wonder if the kid had any criminal record. The shooter made reference to these f-ers always get away like there had been numerous problems with the kid in the past.

kishnevi, miss you at that California prosecutor’s site. You too, SPQR.

Remember, I do this to entertain me, not you.
